£1000 Gaming Rig Suggestions

Ah, I didn't know that. Cheers.

No worries fella.

Doesn't look like much of my advice has been taken in though :( The cheaper cases 200/300R are not designed for watercooling fitting the H100 isn't an option. He could look at the Bitfenix Ronin which can take a 240/280mm rad in the ceiling but I'd want to use a modular PSU in it. That will cost more for the PSU though and you just might as well have had the 540 case with the non modular XFX 850W....it's all about balance ;)

The H100 will have the paste pre-applied to it. CLCs are the easy way to get the watercooling look, the refurb'd H100 for £40 is a bargain it will cool better than an air cooler at the same price. If he is serious about doing watercooling he really REALLY should consider using the Carbide 540. It can take a 360mm rad at the front and more expensive cases can't even do that :D

I've read that the H100 fits in the 200/300R cases but might need different fans, and it's a tight fit, so not ideal. With a smaller case I'd probably stick with air myself, though the smaller ones like the H60 should be no problem.

Many thanks for the advice even though it makes the whole thing even more difficult to decide upon! :D

Water cooling is not a necessity in my eyes. If air cooling will do the same job then that's fine. I was just unsure whether it was necessary or not. What are my options in this scenario and what would the cost now be? I presume I need some sort of heat sink and more fans?

Appreciate the advice!

You're quite welcome fella.

I wasn't having a dig at you I just seemed to be repeating myself a bit. The D3HP is NOT a dual GPU mobo really. If you know you'll never go that route then yes it's a good option. For a single GPU setup 500Wish is more than ok for the PSU going modular really helps too for cable management with helps airflow.

Single GPU setup with the i7K (do you really need the Hyperthreading?). Quiet case with a decent air cooler included. It can get confusing with so many options but think things through. As I said work on your post count a little and if you live in the mainland UK you'll lose that nasty P&P.

The refurb'd H100 would fit in this 330R if you want one but there is a wait on them. Might make sense to order it seperate (with free P&P) and just use the stock intel heatsink till the CLC arrives on the door ;)

Probably not for a while if this is powerful enough to play some games on at least medium settings and be able to use photoshop without dieing on me!

Absolutely clueless about this to be honest. If the i5 is good enough then there is no point wasting money on an i7 (I was just looking at making it last for a few years at least)

No kidding :p

but think things through. As I said work on your post count a little and if you live in the mainland UK you'll lose that nasty P&P.

Nice! Did not know about this

A 7950 with an i5 4670K is enough to play all existing games on medium to max settings (most of them at max). It'll also accelerate Photoshop filters, assuming you've got CS6.

Since you're not after a high end gaming PC, I'd go for the cheaper case and a good air cooler. It's up to you whether you want to get a board that is good for Crossfire/SLI later, or save a bit by sticking with one GPU - as above, you can get a cheaper PSU if you don't want two cards.

Once again, thankyou for all the advice and help. So after a lot of Google, thinking and headache I created a list borrowing heavily from the advice here. Please let me know if I have missed anything or am overlooking anything. I took the plunge and went for a larger case for more space inside for cooling.

Total : £1,212.40 (includes shipping : £25.45).

Now, I have gone massively over budget here thanks to the monitor but this can be taken out (and might be despite being an excellent monitor so I have read). With this, do I have enough cooling and enough performance to play most games on decent settings? Single GPU will probably be fine for me.

Kind Regards,
Rexonon

I'd recommend the 850W PSU for the sake of £10 extra, in case you decide to add another graphics card. You haven't added a CPU cooler - even if you don't overclock, the stock one is noisy at load.

Many thanks gents. Sadly that Hyper 212 Evo is out of stock. Will I need to wait for it to become available before I purchase my basket? At the same time, is it difficult to remove the stock cooler and fit this instead? (I presume the CPU has a heatsink and fan on it already).

I also changed the GPU as recommended.

Yes mate not bad. The PSU is too weak for another GPU though, pointless having that mobo and not having a 750/850W PSU backing it. You can use the stock intel cooler and upgrade it later on.

I'd stick with the Corsair 540 myself it's deceptively large, it's not tall but wide, this allows massive cooling and has awesome watercooling support (can take 360mm rads). Because the PSU has it's own compartment you aren't punished for having a non modular PSU, there is loads of room for the cables. I've added a BEAST of an air cooler which is quiet and cools very well for overclocking.

That 144Hz Panel is sweeeet, great for gaming. The Nvidia 670 is still a good GPU, it's a cutdown down 680 but they didn't cut of much just OC it. It was a £300 GPU till the 770s came out, these are a "Super Duper" 680. With Nvidia you get CUDA support and PhysX for the games that support it.

The stock intel heatsink is a piece of cake to install and remove, just need to clean off the paste if you change it later. The EVO SSD is on preorder so will delay the order till it comes in stock, it's worth the wait for it.

Some alternate coolers here to look at.....
