Google-Motorola "X Phone" in the 2013 pipeline?

Another "big" phone that is stupidly over hyped, which doesn't deliver in the end

The camera overall & battery life etc. is going to have to be excellent in order to make that price tag attractive!

Love the phone and much rather have it over the GS 4 [assuming camera and battery life is just as good] (don't care about 1080P that much especially when the pixel arrangement on the moto X is RGB), xperia Z but wouldn't pay that price! Although it could just be the networks taking the **** with the prices possibly (i.e. like the nexus 4 situation) and once everything has settled down we might see proper pricing? Is this being sold on the play store and if yes for how much?

Any word if it is even coming out here anyway?

Now to see if what I have been told about the much cheaper version comes true, doubt it if the specs are similar......

Guess I'll flash sense V5 on my S this weekend and hang on till the nexus 5 in November/December or just buy the new nexus 7 in September :(

Its not coming out over here but a different portfolio of products will be released in Europe instead for Motorola to (not support) with updates.

I actually want this product to fail. It is the epitome of form over substance mass marketed dross that saturates the media industry and has now appeared in the phone industry.

pretty much says it to a t.... I'd rather have this than a samsung/htc etc purely due to the fact it's linked with google meaning (in theory) better updates... but then they go and screw themselves with the price and lack of non us/canada sales even in plain black (which would be fine with me) and white.... not to mention they're going to do a plain google version without all the 'moto x' bits lol

It's pretty much priced to match the htc one and the s4 on contract and thats just stupid....

Moto still haven't learnt from their old mistakes it seems :o

There are google editions of the s4 and one now

Even more of a fail, but don't know why I am so disappointed as we already knew that the chances of it coming out here were slim to none

So I wonder if these products will be like the razr i we got:

- worse hardware
- poor and slow support
- expensive and too late!

Instant buy!

Been around for a long time now! So nothing new. You can thank Samsung and mainly Apple for starting it in the phone industry too! :p :D

The hype train really needs to stop (for everything!), getting stupidly over done, Motorola took it to a whole new level though.

edit:

speaking of the google edition gs 4 and one, have they got 4.3 yet? If not, any time frame as to when?

If it takes them 5+ months to get the update then they are completely and utterly pointless

In this case the hype is particularly bad. The main manufacturers actually try and improve hardware year in year. This thing is a collection of leftover parts with fancy wrapping.

One thing that I do expect to happen is that this will be released as a nexus device and KLP will have the capacity to always listen.

I know but their skin actually makes the phone less stock android, the moto x is so close to stock it doesn't really need a google edition

What do you mean, you know the Google editions of the S4 and HTC One run totally stock Android, just like the Nexus phones?

Spec is a let down and lack of global release is a let down.

Sticking a duel core CPU in a phone is asking for bad reviews. Regardless weather it runs smoothe or better than a octocore.... And I did not think the pricing reflected the spec. I sniff a fail.

Some of the stuff is pretty damn good though imo i.e.

- camera in terms of hardware, it is just a question of have moto got the optimisation right? Actually, are there any photos etc. from the new droid range yet?

Wifi setup:

WiFi, the Moto X does include 802.11ac support, courtesy Qualcomm’s WCN3680 combo. This is the first phone I’ve handled with something other than Broadcom’s BCM4335 combo for 802.11ac, I look forward to testing WCN3680 immensely and am hugely grateful for another phone with 802.11ac.

And the battery life could/should be better than the GS 4 etc.

I am most excited about the notification system so far :p :o Honestly think it is much better than a dedicated NLED.

Of course design etc. is personal preference, imo it is the nicest looking phone "overall" to be released this year.

Screen might not be ground breaking in terms of res. but sharpness shouldn't be an issue since it is RGB instead of pentile so it should be a bit better than the note II. Hopefully the calibration, brightness and view ability in sunshine is excellent.

CPU chipset does not bother me at all as long as the performance in real world usage is good, which it should be....

And we still have yet to hear about the other things like audio (don't expect it to be any better than the likes of the gs 4, one s etc. though)

It is just the price that is the deal breaker so far, I would take it over the GS 4 and XZ but not over the htc one (assuming support is crap for the X)

I find it annoying that this isn't being released with 4.3 either :(

If reviewers base their opinion on the phone overall just because of the CPU then they shouldn't be reviewing products!

A dual core S4 CPU is perfectly fine for every task as proven by the likes of the one S and even phones with worse dual core CPU's i.e. gs 2. In some cases a dual core in the "mid range" phone out performed the quad core in the "high end" phones "overall" i.e. one S VS GS 3 and one X

Android still doesn't properly utilise multi-cores let alone like 90% of the apps out there.

Until that happens "quad core" etc. is nothing but a pointless marketing term.

The important thing is the RAM = 2GB and GPU = adreno 320 @720P and software optimisation.

If the phone runs just as good, if not better than the likes of the gs 4, htc one etc. then why do you need a quad core CPU?

A reviewer would be utterly stupid to say that the CPU isn't good enough even if it performs the same or better than the GS 4 etc. in real world usage.

I was about to say. I dont think the person is clued up about the google editions of those phones which btw cant get here yet ffs
We ALL know that the google edition is the same hardware as the skinned version of the phone minus any customisation to the software that the oem has done to 'stock' android, in other words its as close to stock as possible without being a nexus. In some cases stopping certain features like ir blasters from working.

My response was pretty simple to understand in my opinion but obviously it was a bit hard for you two so I'll try and simplify it for you two.... both the htc one and the s4 have a heavy skin applied meaning that the phone has a lot of customisation to it, this makes a google edition worthwhile for android purists.

The moto x does not have that much customisation so it isn't really worth producing another version of the phone without the customisation.

Not to mention the fact that moto have said they want to do fast updates etc due to their decision to be as close to stock as possible

It's not the same, support has nothing to do with 'stock android' it just makes life a bit easier for the OEM.

HTC will screw over HTC One Google Play Edition owners just as hard as the rest. Google have nothing to do with the updates :D

Tough crowd :p

The price certainly seems to be off-putting I was expecting about £350ish (others were expecting stupidly low prices) but based on the prices being speculated at the moment it will probably be like £450+(?) which will make it a tough sell.

It's a shame as imo it is the best designed Android phone to date, bezels are exceptional, front is free from logos and is plain, back is spot on and build quality looks to be top notch. I want the notifications system big time!

Still eager to read reviews to get a better idea on battery life and camera quality. The CPU doesn't bother me in the least, benchmarks already show that it performs very well, which leads to me to believe the phone has decent cooling and optimisation which is good!

I'm still unsure why everyone is so certain there is no UK release... I have found very little info at all which says anything of the sort?

so after all this, not a uk release.

glad i didnt want it in the end!

amazing hype though!

it seems ill be keeping my galaxy note then

I just want a phone that feels nice in the hand (not the Samsung plastic rubbish) and good battery life - is that so much to ask for :(

The more I read about this phone, the more I love it! Screen and performance is apparently very good.

All that is left is the camera and battery life, if moto have nailed that then I will be very pleased even if it is a bit more expensive than what it should be!
