Windows 7 or 8

I'm sticking with Windows 7 and will recommend 7 every time, as a gamer 8 doesn't offer me anything to get excited over.

Faster Loading, higher average/end frame rates and i would!

When the consoles finaly do release, this might change. DX 11.1 has some features which might be very beneficial.

As a gamer myself glad I upgraded to Win8,we get free upgrade to Win8.1 and DX11.2 down the road, improved security right now(always a good thing even for a gamer) and Microsoft store which does have a lot of free games for those that can't afford to buy games.

I should point out my upgrade to Win8 from Win7 was cheaper then what most games cost that gamers buy for Win7 etc so bargain plus as I stated we get Win8.1 and DX11.2 free down the road.
Also all my games work fine ,oldest game I have is XCOM:Apocalypse which is a 1997 game so pre Win98 game.

Win7 days are numbered like any OS,as a gamer myself I'm use to upgrading ie video cards,CPU,OS,driver updates etc so not a big deal.
I could also point out Win7 had nothing exciting over Vista gaming wise and you had to pay full price for Win7 unlike Win8 which was the cost of a cheap game for those that jumped over early,so it all depends on how you look at the big picture.

I hope they do same sort of cheap offer for Win9 .

as many people have said before me. I think it depends what kind of user you are personally i prefer windows 7 becuase i like to see things in detail and i like doing 4 things at once.

Windows 8 seems more of the type for people that just

1. turn on computer
2. touch/click/point at favourite app
3. use straight away without really thinking too much

(no offense to anyone intended )

hell, i like using even windows xp sometimes becuase there are some things you cant do in windows 7 that you can do on windows xp easier.

i think you just need to ask yourself what are you going to use your OS for exactly?

Funny that's how I've used Windows for decades ie click on the program I want without thinking too much etc so its not unique to Win8,far from it.

Last time I had to think was with DOS 6.22 ie rearranging memory ,IRQs etc, since the arrival of Windows a long time ago we have it very easy and simple.
I use Win8 just like I've used Win95,98,XP,Vista,Win7 etc for everything and Win9,10,11 will not change that.

Sounds like the way a good OS should work really. Who wouldn't want that?

Windows 7 is great, however I run Windows 8. Despite Windows 8 having it's flaw it has too many great features which outweigh the anything I dislike in Windows 8. Roll on 8.1!

Yep, a lot of people dont like change, i think the reason why most people were put off is cause it looks like they just focused on the touchscreen aspected but oh well

It has absolutely nothing to do with change for most people. Trying to marry a Desktop UI to one clearly designed for tablets was never going to be a good experience. Given the amount of unsold Surface tabs that MS can't shift they have already lost this battle. Therefore drop this silly stance and let's get back to a proper Windows Desktop.

I just bought Windows 8. Finding it a bit weird to be honest. Although I'm an out and out techie and do it as a job - so figured I must get round to trying it.

I got the standard edition, as it is for my gaming machine figured I'd have no need for the other elements of Pro.

Gut feel: fast, slick and clean. However, the two frames (metro and desktop) do not make me feel at home in either.

I've now upgraded to 8.1 preview, and in general it is much better. The simple fact that I can have the same wallpaper in both metro and desktop mode, and a button at the bottom on desktop to take me to Metro makes the whole thing just work.

Personally, I still boot to Metro, rather than desktop.

All in all pretty happy. I'll stick with 8.1 preview until Final is released.

Only annoyance is that I could have been using this 8.1 build for free without buying a copy of 8. Let's hope it doesn't go down in price.

I just hope for the Final version I'll be able to download the ISO and burn it to a USB stick. As I'll want it for clean reinstall so I don't have to install 8, then install 8.1.

Pricing and limit range is the main issue with Microsoft tablets IMHO,they are way overpriced, that's why I use an Android tablet and Win8 on my laptop and desktop PCs.

Windows desktop is always changing/ evolving just like hardware changes etc, some people can't except this, remember Win 3.11 to Win95 , so they bring in the invalid argument like you have.

windows 7 its more supported

?

Perhaps there are a few things out there that might not work on Windows 8, but nothing I've heard of.

Got it up and running and everything I care for works.

Poor argument.

It has been out for a while now.

As you already own a copy of W7 I'd say stick with that.

On a personal user level, W8 has given me absolutely zero benefit and in performance terms I honestly can't tell the difference.

Invalid in your opinion - please try to remember that. Given the pressure from manufacturers and public alike over Windows 8 there has to be more than me thinks trying to run two eco systems as one is really not clever. At some point Ballmer will get the message - probably with his P45.

I thought all members here had THEIR OWN opinions but funny some people don't like comments or opinions from others.

As it stands my opinion is as valid as yours and I stand by my statement regardless of what you say.

No such thing as an invalid opinion in forums as long as its on topic, invalid argument is different however, opinions we all have but backing them up with valid arguments is a different matter.

I won't be buying a Win8 tablet due to being too expensive and limit range,Android tablets however plenty to choose from and great pricing,I use Win8 on my desktop PC and find it easy to use but as I stated won't be buying one of their tablets, that's my opinion with valid facts.

There are plenty of reasons why Android are doing well in the tablet market even before Win8 was released.

i've just came from windows 8 back to windows 7.. some features in corsair ssd toolbox do not work in windows 8 i was also trying to tether internet from my galaxy s4 and it just wasnt working properly was keep disconnecting.. came back to windows 7 and all is well... to be honest i used 8 for 4 month and never had a problem until i needed top use toolbox and tethering on my phone. i'm sure theres a lot of other things like this out there. i'll be moving back to windows 8.1 when bf4 comes out.

That Windows 7 is "more supported" is probably actually true in the sense that it's a known quantity, and much less likely to surprise you with an incompatibility.

But is it a significant problem generally? No not at all.

Still enjoying 8.1 here.

Got use to it all pretty quickly.

I actually find the fact that things are hidden more beneficial than a hindrance.

I don't need to go to most of the underlying settings all of the time. And when I do, because I know w7 so well and getting to know 8.1 I can find my way there very very quickly.

All seems so nice and clean...this is 8.1 not 8 btw.

Going to the modern UI is a big win for me. It is simply a full screen startbar, plus apps that are nice to use when just browsing or skyping. Really like the sky news one.

Now all I ask is that they make the OS support two default browsers. One for the Modern UI, and one for the desktop which will launch battlelog and other stuff. Once that is done, which I'm sure will be...I'll not have any grips.

I guess, not suffering from any compatibility issues is a big plus for me, and I understand that to be an issue. My Antec 920 sw didn't install from disk, but a quick mooch on the Antec site found me the latest version that worked.

Icing on the cake? itunes app and battlelog app rather than browser...but you can't have it all, apparently.
