they do look nice although i dont mind using a chain guide as it can't add much weight and beyond that i see no disadvantage of using one.

Alright guys, I've been looking at getting a Giant Defy 1 and I went to my local Giant stockist in Warrington and he offered me a slightly better deal (said he would discount it, but not sure by how much) for the 2013 model given that the 2014 model was coming into stock.

I've tried to compare the various bits and pieces from each model, but which model would you guys go for? Are there really any key upgrades with the 2014 model which are definitely worth having, or should I just make do with the 2013 model?

Fitted my new Aero roof bars to the 4007 today and then the Mont Blanc Barracuda carriers. Awesome bits of kit, so simple but so clever at the same time. Much better than the rear mounted rack I was using, I can actually get into the boot now.

Found the Barracudas a bit fidly to understand at first but then all of a sudden you have a 'Eureka' moment and their simplicity shines through. ;)

Made a DIY chainstay protector out of an old punctured innertube today. It actually looks pretty decent and cost nothing! Was about to buy a neoprene one from CRC before I saw the video.

I did the second method as it looks neater. Just need a couple of cable ties now to make sure the ends stay put.

It's what I have, and I think it's a bigger improvement to the bike than the Clutch Mech is.

I got one too, not used it yet...but I'll use it with a clutch mech.

Doesn't everyone do this ? :)

Better to cut the tube in half along the length of the tube, and then in half along the length again, leaving you with about 5cm wide strip that you can wrap around neatly.
That way you have an even neater looking stay ( looks like the bike tape you can buy) thats as silent.

Just rode down Ben Rinnes....amazing! Probably one of the best things I've done on a bike, gnarly steep and rocky! Anyone that lives near Moray should give it a bash just be prepared for some pushing and a quick decent!

Yeah I use it with a clutch mech, but I went out on a ride with the chainring, before I put the mech on, and I had no drops. Though the chain still slapped around all over. One makes the chain stay put, one get's rid of stupid annoying noises. :p
