Thank you.

Jonnyp

EDIT: just looked at task manager, and thats only saying @total - "4093" ?

What are your system specs and what operating system are you using (I assume 64bit)

sorry, forgot to mention that ...

FX6300
Gigabyte 78lmt-usb3
4x2GB corsair xms3 1333
windows 7 64bit ultimate (you was right ;) )
HD5770
WD 500 Green SATA 2 HDD

Fresh install of windows about 2 hours ago...

Need some system specs from you and what OS you are using. Only so much anyone can do with a crystal ball :D

It appears your board has integrated Graphics, pop into the BIOS and disable this as your using a external card, I am wondering of your board has assigned some memory to this.

(You must have been a few seconds quicker :D)

Ok, right!

Try a pair of memory stick individually to ensure you don't have a iffy bunch and perhaps check with Mem test (link below)

http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

but before i did a fresh install, it was fine and using all 8gb, do you think 2 sticks could have gone in the mean time ?

also, if i goto system properties , its saying "8GB, 4GB usable"

but in task manager. its only saying "total" 4093

confused much

Something is bugging me, I've seen this before but cant remember what! :(

Have you checked the BIOS since doing a fresh install?

Perhaps try a CMOS reset as well.

There is an option in msconfig regarding memory, think its on the same page where you select cpu cores, just a possibillity.

In msconfig its in "boot advanced options" the figure below max memory should be set to 0

iv seen a lot of people mention that on google, but a lot of the reply's said it didnt do anything, i supose its worth a shot, unless someone tells me its a bad idea.

Last time I had this it was faulty memory, different brand of memory was ordered and the fault went away, funnily it was Corsair memory that went faulty on me, I replaced with GSkill memory I think it was and all showed and worked fine after, just had to rma the bad ones.

Test with only one ram stick installed,if it boots, pull the stick out and test the other stick in the same slot, then repeat the test for the other ram slot

You need to findout if you have a dead/faulty ram stick or slot

Btw onboard graphics won't reserve 4gb of ram, maybe 128-256mb tops

I still think that could be the onboard GPU has been re-enabled! :p

Hopefully you get this sorted, I need sleep!
