Job interviews success rate

4 Interviews, 2 successes.

The 2 failures were just part time in-between jobs that I didn't really care about missing out on.

Crass is definitely the word I would use.

Thar be a recession on. People chiming in with how amazing they are is only going to warp perceptions and make it more difficult for those having a tough time.

See, what you're doing wrong if you're not being offered every job you've been interviewed for, is that you're obviously spitting in the employer's face. Didn't anybody ever tell you not to spit at them? They don't like being spat on, so don't do that. Oh, and obviously wash and groom. I didn't get my last job offer as I turned up in the unkempt clothes I'd slept in complete with white ominous stains down the front and spat at them whenever they asked me a stupid question.

Who knew?

Not overly crass no. I work in architecture and it was one of the hardest hit during the recession (construction as a whole). The practice I work at had about 2 months which were quiet and had to let a grad student go so the rest of us had enough work to keep going. After that (think that was tail end of 08) we've been busy enough that we've taken on another part 3 student full time and another student although hes busy with coursework.

Technically not at the the moment there isn't, in fact following revised figures we haven't been in a recession since 2009.

I've had many job interviews 30+ in the last year and have had no success.

I got my current contract after having one phone conversation and luckily I'm here 5 months later.

Leicester isn't the easiest place to get an IT job and I don't drive (yet - test on the 23rd Sep).

I've had 8 interviews in my career and had offers from 6 of them. I'm batting a 0.75!

1 of the failures was because the interviewers were not in anyway technical (this was for an IT dev job) and that made me have serious doubts about the company and how it saw its employees. The other one I just completely messed up the technical questions. Got the first one wrong and then couldn't get it out of my head and made other mistakes because of it.

11-0 although I've only actually had 6 jobs. Went through a period after Uni of getting several interviews in a short space of time and then got to choose the one I wanted.

I'm 23, I've had 6 job interviews and received 5 offers. The one I didn't get was because I completely messed up a telephone roleplay, although I'm quite glad I didn't get it as it was a horrendous telephone debt collection role.

I fear come this time next year when I graduate that it may be a completely different answer.

Since Uni,

7 interviews for 5 jobs. Headhunted 3 times.

Of the 2 I didn't get.... The first I was headhunted but didn't really want to leave my current job so asked for a stupidly high wage, the feedback was that I was first choice but they couldn't afford what I was asking for. The second, I knew halfway through the interview that a. I'd blown it as I was still bitter about a recent redundancy (that took place 2 weeks after I'd purposely priced myself out of a new job) and b. even if by some miracle they wanted me back for a 2nd interview I wouldn't go as I simply didn't like the chap I would be working for.

I've only ever been interviewed a few times thankfully. Most of my jobs have been on recommendation through contract work.

I'm shocked by the figures I hear about today and really feel for younger people. Personally, and just my opinion but I feel there are three reason for this.

The skilled market place has dropped. When I left college, manufacturing was still booming and a good percentage of GDP. Apprenticeships for skilled workers could be had at a drop of a pin.

Too many qualified individuals. There doesn't really appear to be a structure to identify and separate individuals for certain positions. Everyone's got degrees so there's no means testing or proving their quality which makes them meaningless.

My son went for a group interview for a part time positions while he studies for which he had to prepare a "Thought Board"? He told me there were older post graduates qualified up to their necks applying. So you get all these qualifications and it comes down to sticking images from magazines on to an A3 card. Good grief.

and dare I say it, there's too many foreign workers working in positions that British workers just aren't prepared to do. This means other jobs are over subscribed.

Bottom line for me.. More apprenticeship work is needed to get the skills which naturally leads into employment.

I think the OP is missing another question!

How many times have we all been sacked?

ME - 0 what about the rest of you? OP?

Never been sacked. Been made redundant twice though, and both times it actually worked out for the best with a redundancy payment and walking straight in to a higher paid job.

I must have had around 10 interviews/assessment centres in the past year for an apprenticeship. Finally been successful for but for two in one week so I got to pick!;)

Hopefully wont have to interview again for a long while.

When in the UK I applied for 5 jobs, got each one. When moving abroad it became infinitely more difficult. In Denmark everyone has an MSc, speaks fluent English and work experience is not valued as much as it seems to be back home. I recently got turned down at an interview, a first for me that I'm not keen on repeating!
