Pub beer prices

Around here prices have been dropping and dropping for the last 3 or 4 years, A while ago most places were well over £3 a pint, now around £2 is the norm for lager (obviously some nicer places are higher)

Is this something that is happening all over the country or just a local thing

Whaaaaaat?! I need to move to Nottignham! prices keep going up and up her in Leeds

wasn't really looking for prices in areas more the trends which is very much downward around here

Geographical location is very important if you want to know the average cost of a pint in the UK!! ;)

As for trend I would say its near the same as it was 5 years ago give or take 20p!! :)

I would be horrified on at least 2 counts :p

It was either Amstel or Heineken and I would rather follow the bear gryls guidelines on refreshment than drink heineken!

Prices have tended to go up by around 20p a year for the last few years. Maybe a little less since they banned drinks promotions.

in stoke/nottingham ive always thought anything over 2.50 for a pint is too much.

ok flavored cider is always more expensive, but lager/bitter is usually <£2.50 in most places i go (except clubs)

obviously but I was asking if trends were different in other areas, by all means back it up with prices

so I suppose in your area the trend is slightly down in real terms

hmmm interesting, around here cheap lager is generally 2.5 - 3 quid a pint, premium lager up to about £3.70.

My local charges £2.60 for a fosters, and £3.80 for an erdinger.

Can't say I've noticed a decrease in Edinburgh. Most pubs seem to be at an all time high of 3.50 - 4.50 a pint. Further out you go the cheaper it gets though.

Yes it has stayed the same or gone a little lower in real money terms! But it also depends where you go! The other day went to Llangollen in wales and paid £4.50 for a pint of G because it was by the river dee!!

I went for pint in the hole by where we live and it was £2.10 a pint!!!

As they say location, location, location!!! ;)

For a decent lager, veltins, san miguel, peroni the minimum price where I drink in Winchester/Southampton is £4.00 but I usually pay £4.30. And the trend down here is up up up. How I wish I was back in Salford sometimes (but then again........ :) )

You're not just paying for the liquid in your glass and the service, you're also paying for the location, atmosphere and reputation of the pub. With hundreds of pubs being closed each year due to lack of demand you would hope we diehards would be rewarded with cheaper beer for our loyalty but it hasn't happened. :(

Yeah, around London, I'd say it's a gentle upward trend, but prices haven't increased that much in the last couple of years. They certainly haven't gone down though. :(

Given the markup on beer (it costs in the region of 70p a pint to have it delivered to your premises), I wouldn't be surprised to find some downward trend in price in order to attract customers.

Pubs have gone down hill since the smoking ban !! Fact!!

Plus you have the big Pub Co's in for the money!!! What happened when the conservative party broke up the breweries in the 1990s, because they owned too much !!! The money grabbers moved (AKA Pub Co's) in using a different name and saying we dont make alcohol, but doing just the same as what they wanted to break up with breweries in the first place go figure!!!

Conservative party is a gentleman's club, and you folks just aint in it !!! ;)

On topic : The local supermarket is great for cheap beer!!! :p

It's about £3 down here.
I still know of a place that occasionally does 50p pints, but it's a student place and it is the most awful vile disgusting thing you could ever drink.
I am surprised they can make a profit on that, I would have thought it's not worth the barman's time.

Oh dear, can't you pretend you are a student?
