Now I know why I don't want to become a PC Gamer!!!!

I went to use my wife's PS3 to play Heavy Rain a week or so ago.

Spent an hour and a half downloading system and game updates. The best bit was when after half an hour of downloading the PS3 ran out of disk space...so I had to delete several thing and re-download the biggest patch.

NEVER had an issue with PB, just me being lucky?

only problem i have had with PB was a program running in the background PB thought it was some kind of hack and kicked me(was to make BF3 boarderless)

use to have to tinker with things a long time ago, but now i never have to do much if any of that stuff any more.

Maybe not as straightforward as console gaming but I get so few issues these days and honestly can't remember the last time I had any problems running anything. If I ever needed a reason to remind myself why I game on my PC rather than a console I'll just compare game prices (obviously various other reasons as well)

I had this problem a little while back. Wasn't a big deal, a quick Google and a few minutes to install an up-to-date version of Punkbuster and the game was working fine.

This is always the way with anything. The more something is configurable for the user, the more complicated it becomes to setup.

The reward far outweighs the PITA setup time for PC gaming, IMO.

Download the uninstall Programe

On Some Windows 7 64bit pnkbstra.exe & pnkbstrb.exe get installed to C:\Windows\System32 / C:\Windows\SysWOW64
Also Remember when installing to the run the installer As Administrator so it can change the files needed also some Anti-virus software might block punkbuster from installing or run I have had that a few times :/

Hope this helps

Thanks, I'll give this a try after work.

So, one minor annoyance and you quit pc gaming?
Nice work

Good input!

I don't want to give up, it's just why bother with all the hassle of trying to get something to work when I can just switch on my xbox! At the moment the rewards aren't worth it because I haven't got a graphics card. Even when I do it's only going to be a half decent one. I've done everything I could find online and a few extra tinkering myself and I am yet to see the pnkbstrA.exe or pnkbstrB.exe files anywhere! Hopefully I might find them in the suggested folders above.

The only issue I have had over the past 5 years is The Witcher 2 no longer starting up since the most recent patch, and no solution I have read up on fixes it.

Every other game has been gravy.

Mouse & keyboard controls. Next question? :p

There's a much longer list, but for shooters, I think that reason alone trumps any others ;)

A saying I was told ages ago.

Computers are not stupid, its the person who controls it that makes the computer act stupid. - True story :D

Then don't bother. I'm not being argumentative, but if you see no compelling reason to bother then don't. PC gaming is expensive and can be fraught with frustration.

What will you do if your power supply goes bang? Or, for that matter, any component? What will you do when your computer needs upgrading because the £300 gpu you bought is no longer powerful enough? How would you deal with not being able to play a game on launch day because servers can't cope? These are all things a pc gamer has to put up with.

I do it because the titles I want to play are PC exclusive and I have enough interest and disposable income to satisfy that interest.

I mention all this because you don't seem to have the patience to find out solutions to problems on your own. And the problems you've mentioned are fairly easy to fix. I'm not criticising you for this at all, some people just don't have the patience. But this will not be the last hurdle you face if you choose to game on a PC.

I will never understand why they include this crap (punkbuster) and then completely fail to integrate it into an update method. The security solution should be part of the game, you shouldn't need to go and manually do it. It isn't 1999 anymore, this is 2013 and companies really need to sort this sloppiness out.

EA.

what do you expect ???

Frankly the attitude of a lot of PC owners can put you right off as well, but if you can stick with it it's worth it IMO. As a gamer it might cost you more to put a PC together, but then you'll save loads of money on games via Steam sales so it balances out

Half the comments in this thread are derogatory rather than helpful. Not that console players are much better in that respect, but they aren't as elitist.
