Are you for or against foriegn aid

we pay in our taxes 0.7% towards foreign aid.
A person on an income of £25,000 pays £5,465 in tax, of which £52 a year would go to the overseas aid budget. That is the cost of buying a loaf of bread a week, do you begrudge the starving of the world that or not.
Yes, yes I do begrudge it. If I wish to give money to a group or organisation it should be with my consent.

Is this Diane Abbot the racist MP posting?

If helping others whether inside or outside our own borders was left wholly up to the individual things would be in a much worse state than they are now. People don't give a ****. So no, i don't mind.

Can you prove that? :)

I would certainly do even more for charities if I wasn't being taxed for it.

Tax is theft ;)

If you believe that the government is stealing from you, then why not move to a country where you are not taxed at all. Somalia is pretty pleasant this time of year, but then again, i think before long you may miss the securities that our government provides its citizens with the taxes we pay.

This is a true story.

A while back now my friend introduced me to a Ugandan friend of his. We had lunch and chatted for a while.

Turns out this fella had a brother who was known to politicians and the like in Uganda. He was a man who could get cars for them as the prestige manufacturers (BMW, Merc, Audi), would not import into a country where the average wage was 50p a day.

This man wanted help from my mate whereby my mate would supply a high quality car for a good price and recieve a profit when the car was sold. He actually got hold of a 1 year old S class for around £30k. Once he had the car, the Ugandan fella would deal with the exporting to Uganda, where the other fella would pick up the car, and then sell it to a politician or the like for a 25% markup. This meant £7k profit. 2 for both the Ugandans and 3 for my mate who put the money up. Now this sounds like a scam. But it wasn't. The money came though good as gold every time.

I dont know what was said, but my mate stopped after about 6 cars. When I asked why, he just said he had spoken to the Ugandan a bit more and came to the conclusion that he couldn't live with taking food from starving children's mouths. I think we all know what he meant.

No, I'm not moving thanks. This is my soil. ;)

If a group of thugs were to demand at least one third of
your income every month and threaten dire consequences if
you didn’t accept their offer of “protection”, you wouldn’t
hesitate in knowing what to call it - theft!

Someone on £25k pays more tax than that. £5181 for income tax and ni and then £1000+- for council tax. £6181. Then there is 20% vat. Say the person only spends 80% of his money and saves 20% of it. So that would mean 80% is vat taxable. £15055 is 80% of the income after other tax. 20% of that is £3011. So that would be £6181 + £3011. £9192 and excluding taxes and license fees and mandatory other payments to simplify the calculation or we would be here all day. That would be 36% percent total tax.

Total foreign is estimated at £8.6 billion. Total income tax earners is estimated at 26 million and of course no one but businesses can escape paying the VAT. But not everyone pays the council tax. 8.6 billion divide by 26 million is £320 per person per year.

Lets change the way we look at it. That is £23561643 per day sent over seas. That means a person on £25k per yer will have his total tax annual tax £9192 sent overseas within 30 seconds (estimate its probably about 45 seconds). ie every 30 seconds they are sending some ones annual tax contribution out of the country.

Thugs none the less, I would be imprisoned with murders and human garbage if I refused their tax. ;)

Against - I gave a truck load to charity but that's my choice i don't want my tax money to go to the pockets of governments for their space program. That UKIP bloke buy have used inflammatory language but it's got us talking and he's perfectly right. Every word

Bit of a fail post OP

For.

I find it strange how people can be so apathetic to others just because they're from a different country. I don't see why starving British people are any more deserving of aid than starving foreigners. The money should go to whoever needs it the most, regardless of where they were born.

Too many people have this 'I'm alright Jack' attitude.

My empathy for my fellow human isn't dictated by the lines on a map he or she was born into.

Very nicely put.

It would be a good idea for the Government to bring in a opt in\out if you want to give your money away.. Now that is fair all around.
