Lower back pain

I was the dobber with the helmet and bicycle with a bright light on.

Hmmm, cyclist visiting the Burnbank BP at half 10 with appropriate clothing on and a legitimately purchased bike...nope, nothing sticks out :p :D

Watch the videos in the "How to Clean" thread. They are very basic explanations of how to get hip drive right and working before getting addicted and spending the rest of your gym life workout out how tog et evey last bit of hip extension out of the movement.

Start from a hang. That will force you to work the second pull. :)

Edit: also don't forget you're trying to do the two (three?) hardest lifts there are, and this takes time. Lots of it. :)

Nice update in the thread. I tried snatches tonight for the first time, still couldn't get the hips driving the weight enough. My traps/arms just take over.

I've scheduled some coaching on Wednesday which should be good :)

Hit a front squat PB tonight and my jerks are coming along nicely after reading your guide, I can drive the weight off my shoulders quite well without any arm intervention at all.

Great work! Hip drive takes practice: I once remember my coach telling me lifters practice just the technique for months/years just to get it right... And I have just about come to getting it close to 'good' after 18 months... :D

I'd love to see videos, simply because I love watching Olmypic lifting, also to see how your technique changes after your coaching session. :)

I'll keep updating with videos as I progress - might start a training log for that purpose, save me cluttering up this thread.

This is a good video for demonstrating what I need

Dat hip thrust

As for the initial back pain, the advice given is helping somewhat. I still experience a bit of pain with the cleans but I think it's because my core isn't squeezed enough for support and I'm still dropping the bar in a silly manner when the gym is busy. Working on it!
