Windows 7 or 8

If many users weren't annoyed, threads like this would not get so big. And then there's the users that don't post in forums...

I was annoyed when DOS died,I was annoyed that gamers only got a very minor update with Win8 etc but that does not stop me upgrading everytime,a lot of people like to bitch and moan in forums not to mention how many don't like change etc so threads like this become popular, anyway nobody is forced to upgrade.

Also people are more inclined to take the time to whinge on forums than those who are happy with, or at least content with Windows 8. Uptake long term will be the proof, but let's face it MS are a victim of their own success to a certain extent as Windows 7 is an awesome OS :)

I have Win 8 though and personally prefer it now I'm use to it, although I do think it takes a while.. wife still prefers XP :p

I'm not disputing many users are upset for whatever reason, but we're not talking about hundreds of millions of people here. The vast majority of existing users who are supposed to be outraged probably aren't even sure what operating system they're using, let alone have a strong opinion about it.

The vast majority of users are on Windows XP or Windows 7 and won't be upset in the slightest by Windows 8. This idea that the existing user base is in outrage just isn't true.

I don't think the large OEM's would agree or the myriad of financial and tech analysts who have written much about this subject, nor indeed MS who have acknowledged the issues.

Sounds like you know something that the rest of us don't?

You mean the analysis that have all come out and said it isn't win8 it's the switch to tablets and other form factors, that MS have capitalised on.

I think you need to learn how to disseminate reports and analytical information if that is your take. The landscape is far more complicated than that which your inaccurate post suggests.

It's not my take at all.
As they say the decline started before win8 and will carry on.

Analyst firm Gartner announced today that global PC shipments in the second quarter of 2013 declined 10.9 percent and some people rushed to criticize Microsoft’s new Windows 8.

Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner, claims that Windows 8 should not be blamed for the collapse of the PC industry, explaining that the decline has actually started way before the new operating system hit the market.

While Windows 8 has been blamed by some as the reason for the PCmarket’s decline, we believe this is unfounded as it does not explain the sustained decline in PC shipments, nor does it explain Apple’s market performance,” Kitagawa noted.

Windows 8 is currently installed on approximately 5 percent of computers worldwide, but Microsoft expects the market share to grow in the coming months as a result of the public launch of the 8.1 OS update.

Your post 199 - you appear to have knowledge about Windows users that global manufacturers, tech and financial analysts plus Microsoft don't.

If people wish to entertain the idea that the vast majority of existing Windows users are upset about Windows 8, then good luck to them.

I'm sticking with 7 for my new build. Purely because I'll also be running a laptop with 7 and I don't want to get used to a new OS and use two different versions at the same time.
