2 jobs for you in Edinburgh out of a 11,000 on a popular website, took me seconds to find, not months, not much in the way of qualification required, you can buy me a beer later :)

Why did you quote yourself?

I do feel sorry for you young people just starting out in the world and you can blame the EU for the mess we are in.

Like when I was young and saving for land and if I could not get any overtime I used to go to a building
site and ask for work digging\dumper driving\loading houses with breeze blocks ect £50 a day awesome.

Now you need to pass a exam to hold a shovel and another one to use it the worlds gone mad.

If anything, i think the problems society face today stem from the fact we have it too easy! People think they are hard done by if they cant afford to upgrade their phone or Sky package

You seem to be ignoring the fact that these things didn't exist not so long ago, there's many more expenses that can be considered necessities in modern life that just weren't around (a mobile, internet etc.).

or buy that detached house 10X their salary, not because they literally cant afford to eat.

Detached house for 10 times my salary, sign me up! Down here you're looking at 30-50x the average for someone my age for a detached property.

The mean income for people my age is £13,200, I earn around £17,000 at the moment (it varies greatly, as it's mostly bonus based).

Difference being, I and many others did that in the 80s when unemployment far higher than today. We kept trying and eventually found a good job, saved money, bought house - instead of whining about it.

That's great and all. The average wage in 1985 was £11,691.52, the average house cost £34,700. Just under three years wages.

Average house now: £163,056, average wage: £24,769. That's nearly 7 years wages.

'Several months job hunting'

For real?! Does your local job center have the shutters down with a sign saying 'Closed as there are NO jobs'.

I never said there were no jobs, i said i spent several months job hunting until i got accepted on to one. I had plenty of interviews, but when you're up against people who already have experience in the low end jobs, you're on to a losing battle.

Thanks for those jobs in Edinburgh, they are extremely useful for me.

Just out of interest are you actually a moron or just pretending to be?

Sorry, didnt mean to offend, trying to help, no need to get defensive and name call, just trying to highlight that their are jobs out there.

A lot of jobs require degrees even if they don't actually use most of the skills taught.

Exactly, this is a direct result of the push towards more people passing through Universities. I think probably it was a well meaning policy that intended to improve the level of education of people in this country, unfortunately it resulted in a degree level qualification being diluted to the point where people are asking for them to do general clerical work.

These threads/topics always make me laugh, a cluster **** of polarised opinions from people who can't appreciate what life is like from any perspective but the one they've lived and hence assume things are just as hard/easy for anyone else.

What proportion of monthly takehome pay was the average mortgage in 1985 versus now?

Listening to radio other day and Al Murray saying its purely built on people wanting and buying the latest thing with money they usually don't have and we have to spend our way out of it.

It's just amusing when you think of it put like that makes it seem so stupid and worthless. Not really built on anything solid just a constant want from citizens.

Shh, keep your voice down. That's the premise that our economy is built upon. If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes should fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

Swing away, ITG. :)

what is ITG? I like my monitor more than I want to punch your smug face tbh :D (not that I would really hit someone for how they look) but you do seem dead full of yourself in that video

TBH you look like a younger version of my older brother almost (he's not homosexual though)

Internet Tough Guy.

Smug? It's hard to imagine why I'd be smug about starting a troll thread that has GD's denizens frothing at the mouth with some kind of misplaced anger about something as inconsequential as... Oh, wait. :)
