**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Enjoyed that article, excellent read. Interesting to see how much the research and whole process cost for just one attribute of the console. Looks and sounds impressive, I do wonder how they'd ever further improve on this after the upcoming next gen!

Great read, suggests that the new controller is some way ahead of the 360 controller, which is impressive. The DS4 has some way to go to match it.

does look like a good controller, but 40 new improvements and not one extra button is pretty disappointing. like the sound of the new trigger motors. like how they have redesigned the buttons they look slick. ds4 thumb buttons look boring in comparison to the xbox. for me tho the ds4 is more desirable simply because of the six(or possibly more) extra buttons. two clicks on the touchpad either side and 4 swipes, swipes are like having another dpad. like battlefield 4 you could possible have your dpad actions on the swipe than the dpad could be used for 4 separate commands...wicked.

i dont think bf4 developers would do that tho because they cant do it on xbox pad but saying that nfsmw on xbox had voice commands to access the mod menu while racing unlike ps3 and one of the developers said out right that it would be better playing on xbox for that reason and i agree.

Hmm, best that seems around, is 6% cash back from the Microsoft Store (making it about £404).. BUT it seems that a lot of people have had issues with Microsoft denying the cash back?!

Think I'll just not bother and use my Nectar points instead!

I have already been paid my cashback from my Microsoft preorder. Half tempted to cancel it and order again!

Also has anyone seen the size comparison to the new playstation one?....it looks like a bloody monster!

OMG with my earlier post i looked up a ds4(google images) just to check the boring buttons. just gone back to the page and look what i found. im gob smacked s this even real? the xbox controller looked massive, never thought ps3 was bigger...got a feeling this could be fake

maybe the x1 is smaller than ps3 too

i think you are confused because you are a fanboy. no hard feelings please

Yes, me thinking that a controller's quality is not directly proportional to the number of buttons obviously means I'm a fanboy. The number of times I've been playing games this gen and my immersion has been broken by the ever present "I wish this controller had twenty face buttons" thought is just ridiculous :(

I think he's referring to not needing any more buttons. We have all we need on it.

i thought he was saying how can i be saying the controller is good then be disappointed about a certain thing, something can be good and disappointing at the same time, anyway shami if you didnt mean it like that then you have my sincerest apologies, infact i should not have said what i said even if you did mean it like that. soz.

you could always do with couple of extra buttons tho, for me jump would be ace as the left pad click on ds4, means you wouldnt have to take your thumb off aiming which would help, im sure theres other top advantages of having more buttons too

i didnt say the quality was crap because it didnt have any extra buttons tho, all i meant was it was disappointing not to have one of those 40 new improvemtes to be a extra button or two, i still think its a quality controller because of all the other features..maybe i wasnt clear enough

EDIT
the reason i called you fanboy is because like whats confusing about someone saying something is good but then being disappointed about a certain thing in regards to it?
i thought you may have got mad about me saying its disappointing like a fanboy would, again soz

To be honest at no point during this gen have I wanted more than the 9 buttons available on the 360 controller. The more buttons there are, the more complicated games will become, and for me that's not what console gaming is about. If I want complicated with lots of buttons, I'll go play on my PC.

Edit: Actually, make that 11 buttons. The 4 face buttons, the 4 shoulder buttons, the back button, and the 2 thumbstick clicks. I'm ignoring the start button and guide button as they don't actually do anything gameplay wise.

The thing is, the 360 pad has effectively 20 buttons (LB, RB, LT, RT, 4 face buttons, 8 direction d-pad, L3 and R3, back, start) there is a limit to the amount of buttons you can have on something like a control pad and still have it comfortable to use and have all buttons comfortable to access. Games like FIFA use a modifier button if they need to have extra commands and I think that's a system that works pretty well.

thats fair enough and you are lucky you feel the way you do, personally i would love love love to have buttons on the back of the pad, just imagine reloading without taking your thumbs of either sticks, thats top stuff yes?

the more buttons which essentially are options the better, you can then place not so needed comands on the harder to reach buttons and have needed commands on the easy reach buttons. of course too many buttons would be a joke, but i think ds4 with its clickable touchpad has it right for me

Not really top stuff, no. I've played plenty of shooters and never felt I was being restricted by the split second it takes me to press the reload button. You could always remap the reload button to L3 or R3, if it was that important.

Edit: I also don't feel it's lucky to feel the way I do, I think it's normal to feel the way I do. I imagine the majority of gamers are happy with the number of buttons available. Considering how much research MS appeared to do on this controller, if more people felt like you I think MS would've added more buttons.

its not the split second issue that bothers me personally, its taking my thumb off the stick therefore stopping me from tracking the target then re acquiring it a split second later, its that break in rhythm that i dislike, very bad news in close quarters, this is why i say you are lucky to feel this way, btw when i said lucky i wasnt comparing you to most gamers i was comparing you to me.

not taking your thumbs off either stick to reload is top stuff just give it another thought:)

I've just been reading on kotaku that the console no longer requires the kinect to be plugged in at all times. Good news for the paranoid folks and good news ms are still listening to the people. Since there main guy went to zynga, things for the xbox have been looking up.

I've given it plenty of thought, and I don't think it's top stuff, not if it means bulking up the controller to make room for more buttons. Like I said, just remap the reload button to R3, and you don't need to take your thumb off your aim button. Simple.

If that's legit, then I think the potential for a Kinect-less SKU in the future just became a whole lot more possible, though I don't see it happening any time soon. Maybe a year or so out, but not this year I'd bet.

It's definitely legit, originally reported on the IGN AMA with Microsoft and announced by Mark Whitten.

Massively surprised about this one as I was the one thing that I didn't think they would 180 on.

I'll still buy the console with the Kinect because it seems silly to limit some of the functionality that the console is being built to support. But at the same time good for the people who were worried about it.

I guess the one thing it points to is that there will be a very small selection of games (mainly 1st party) that will end up using Kinect, seeing that they were saying it was integral to the consoles operation, I think I consider this the biggest 180 MS have done yet on the console.
