Hey folks,

Have a new 840 pro on the way and want to clone my current crucial m4 over to it so i dont have to bother with re-install etc.

I read a thread earlier about samsung software that does the job but on the website it tells me it is incompatible with other manufactuers.

Would i be better off doing it through windows 7 boot options or is there other software?

Cheers,

Use windows built in Backup to create an image, then boot from a windows restore disk (you can create this in the backup window) and restore to your new drive, as long as the data amount on the old drive will fit on the new, if not, try to reduce it , even partition the old drive to reduce the C partition then image just the C partition :)

Hey folks,

So I cloned my old 64gb M4 to my new 128gb Samsung 840pro then tried to boot from the samsung.

It wouldn't boot, giving me a "Missing boot/bcd" error and recommended a windows repair. The Win7 OS Disc repair function wouldn't work due to "Version of System options incompatible with version of windows you are trying to repair"

Unsure how to resolve this, I'm tempted just to do a fresh install but wanted to check for an alternative method before going down that route.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Did the clone go through succesfully?

I woud try again. Make sure your running the latest version of the the cloning software from Samsung.

Yep everything went fine, no errors and it partitioned the drive as per the original source ssd.

d/l'd & used the latest data migration software last night. Firmware is also up to date.

Will give it another bash tonight.

Once it's cloned should i disable the old ssd in the bios and then boot from the new one or leave it enabled and boot from the new one?

Thanks just seen this. Will try this before samsungs mitgration.

I use it a lot, for both cloning and to do disc imaging.

When cloning or restoring an image to an SSD, there is an option "Optimise for SSD". I assume this makes sure that partitions are aligned correctly. Whenever I`ve checked, they always have been.
