Hi,
I need a bit more space and am looking for x2 2TB HDD. One for storage, and one to back the storage up to.

I've heard a lot about the 2TB Seagate ST2000DM001 Barracuda in terms of speed, but quite a few people say they go wrong pretty frequently. Bad sectors from the start, and general unreliability.

Is this my best bet, or are there better options out there?

My limit is £65 per HDD.

Thanks.

One more for SB drives.

I've had mine for 18 months now and it's never skipped a beat.

If you research any PC component on the internet, you're going to find people bemoaning failed items.

Seagate are actually one of the better HD manufacturers.

Most reviews for the segate say the drives make a strange sound and also clicking sound as if there about to fail.

I have had both Seagate and WD, my personal preference is WD as the drives IMO tend to make less noise. I have also used WD's RMA process in the past on a VelociRaptor and it was a smooth process.

I prefer WD drives i use them now and they have never failed but segate drives have failed on me several times just out of guarantee.

Funny for me it was opposite I now have 4 sg 2tb in my nas
3 in a work pc that I use for capturing video
1 in my main pc for files

I have had 2 wd blacks 500g was years ago fail
2 wd greens 1tb fail
1 wd raptor 250g but this one was still in guarantee

But I do have 2 wd blacks 3tb in my games pc ;)

It seems to be down to luck when getting hard drives you either get a long lasting drive or one that last just months.

It's luck if you're a small user.

Big, really big companies such as google use vast numbers of drives and know the failure rates they get from each manufacturer.

Don't think they ever spilled the beans about what they found.
