*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

trading my HTC one for one of these tonight, in black

Cant be reading the entire thread so in summary whats the most widely used rom? Still Wanam? and whats the best non flip case?

Cheers all

U got a good guide on how to root, cant seem to find straight forward guide

you're best watching a youtube video, I find XDA pretty easy to use now but to begin with it comes across as what it is, purposefully unhelpful and technical.

That said it's the best place for all this sort of thing, just familiarise yourself with things like Odin etc via youtube, its what I did way back in the S1 days because you can watch someone do it, see how long each step takes and see what to expect.

rooting is much easier these days though!

I think widely used is between wanam, foxhound, Pac, cm10.1 and the google edition.

Its horses for courses, if you're getting into flashing you might as well try them all lol!

Wanam (best flashed in conjunction with JBdomination theme) is trimmed down AOSP themed touchwiz, I think foxhound is the same without needing a theme? Not sure, thats the only one I haven't used.

CM10.1 and PAC are AOSP versions with a lot of tweaks, PAC especially.

And the google edition is the pure stock android experience but is actually very bare and basically gives you a smartphone. Not much else.. don't expect it to be watching your eyes or reading your heartbeat or having weird and wonderful DPI/UI customisations.

Same with the case.. just browse a bit and decide "best" isn't a word you can use for something as subjective as a case. Personally I use nothing, I just bought a bright orange battery cover :)

I always seem to be going back to Wanam after trying many roms, I find it gives the best of both worlds. You get all the original Samsung S4 features whilst having a smooth and efficient experience. Much less bloated than stock rom and for me this is how touchwiz should be out of the box. I think a lot of people would appreciate touchwiz more if it were like this from out of the box to be honest.

sorry :p

very holo slidey menuish. oh and that pacman charging animation lol

Thanks :)

Nice slide menu but I don't like the big blue bar at the top.

Mustn't grumble. :D

All will be forgiven if the final release is super-smooth.

will there ever be a way to get stock rom and then it gets the updates from google? chap selling one in the paper and says ....

"This is a new samsung galaxy s4, only opened it to install the 4.3 jelly bean.It has the stock version of android 4.3 -NOT a custom rom. This is actually transformed to a Google edition Samsung galaxy S4"

He says transformed so its not the Google Edition S4.
Sounds like he has put the just flashed the rom on to it.

You wont be able to get the updates directly from google unless its a Google Edition S4. Otherwise you will have to flash the updates yourself. Available from XDA

I'm not sure that you can't just change it, my S4 now reports its model.number as 9505G and nagged at me to do an update when I installed it. To be fair it didn't work but I don't know if that's because its modded. You can flash a completely stock unrooted TW ROM remember.

My GS4 is dying! It keeps turning off, battery or motherboard issue it seems. Requested a repair today. Flashed back to stock rom and problem still persists. Very strange never had any issue with it until yesterday, it just turns off, then doesn't turn back on until the charger is plugged in. Charged to 100% drained it to 0 charged back to 100% but still no joy keeps turning off and refusing to start up. Not sure what the issue is, was stock rooted MGA.
