I7 Cool Down!

so looks like my i7 needs some time to chill as its hitting temps of 49c when im only surfing the web, so my question is what are the reviews on water cooled self sealed units like

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-004-CM&groupid=701&catid=2330

will i need my own pump or is this just a stand alone water cooled cpu cooler?

thanks in advanced

What cooler are you using at present and what case do you have.

My 3770K idles at just under 30c.

If you are hoping for a decent OC, then something like this.

Air.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator CPU Cooler £62.98
1 x Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler £59.99
1 x Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E SE CPU Cooler TY-143 Fans £59.99
Total : £194.35 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Not all that gened up on CLCs., so can`t comment on any of the others. Maybe someone else can better advise you CLC alternatives.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler £103.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler *Manufacturer Refurbished Unit - 90 Day Guarantee £41.99
Total : £156.48 (includes shipping : £8.75).

I imagine this will get moved to the appropriate forum.

with http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-021-CS will i not need my own pump or are these like a water cooling gimic?

They are cheap at the price and everything you need is built in so no need for additional pumps tubes etc, its ready to go.

They will cool quite well and you might be able to sustain a modest overclock. I am wary of the H100s due to quality issues, but it's your call.

I would personally cool on air unless you want to do water cooling properly and build a custom loop.

this is one off my worries dew to it now being hooked up to a bigger loop is it going to have time to cool right down, leading em to think i should stay by air cooled but i thought if i mount the rad on the outside of my case it might help with heat issues

They have their own pump.

thanks

The details in your signature plus the fact that you are using the stock cooler suggest that you are not overclocking, if this is the case and you don't intend to overclock then there is no point spending a considerable amount of money on a high end cooler. For ~£35 something like the Themalright HR-02 Macho or True Spirit 140 will give you much better cooling with less noise plus give you some overhead to overclock if you decide to. I'm not a fan of closed loop watercoolers as personally I don't think they bring anything to the table other than a significant point of mechanical failure, to get much in the way of benefit over a good air cooler you need a custom build and a considerable budget.

I have a clocked 3770K and its idle temp, I.E - reading a webpage with nothing else much going on in general will always sit approx 8 to 10 degrees warmer than whatever the heat is in the room down at the same level as where you keep your pc, mines is on the floor.

So that gives you a guide, buy a cheap digital thermometer, one that has an attachment that you can put somewhere in the room at the same level as your cpu is at, that way the temperature of your cpu should "in theory" be approx 8 to 10 degrees warmer than what the thermometer is showing.

Don't forget though, don't place the thermometer too close to the PC or a heater or an external door or window etc as that will mean the thermometer will give the reading slightly wrong as it will either be getting the heat or the cold from these things, just find a nice place to put the sensor. :)

If your room temperature as I explained is at a certain level, lets say 25c, then a decently clocked 3770K should idle about 34-36c, well mines does anyway.

Hope that was a little help matey :) ;)

p.s.
I should have said that the temps etc I mention above are at idle, lol, totally different story on load or full load, they will sky rocket then and that's why you need a kinda half decent cooler and fans etc, I have to say, my Corsair H100 (1st edition) with its stock fans and my case with its stock fans have always been fine, if I had to choose again now I would defo buy the update model of my cooler which is the Corsair H100i , that's for sure :)

This depends a lot on the quality of airflow through the case and the type of cooler being used so it doesn't neccesarily follow that your results will be applicable to everybody else.
