Have you successfully quit smoking?

I am a Vaporholic!
I swapped my 30 yr habit for Vaping [3 months], never actually tried to quit before.
I realised it was the actual burning and setting fire to stuff that was harming me.
Nicotine in itself is about as harmful as a cup of coffee in the amounts that you get from vaping.
American red tobacco with a hint of blueberry, slurp.

after smoking two packs a day for 35 years I decided I'd spent more than enough money so I quit. I've just passed five years without a single cigarette and rarely get any cravings any more. It's nice to be able to breathe again. :)

vaping is not quitting smoking it's changing one delivery method for another.

so can you guys stop posting in here until you actually quit your nicotine addiction :P

Smoked 20 a day for 6 years. Stopped 4 months ago cold turkey. It was about 2 weeks of hell and then all good :). Noticed the difference in energy and fitness.

Haven't had a cig in three years.
Smoked for 15 years full time then about 5 years on and off. Finally made the decision to quit and its only now when I don't get cravings. Have put on a fair amount of weight but just need motivation to get off my backside

Felt benefit after 3-4 weeks but craving was always there especially socially. Work and home generally ok.

I don't think the cravings ever go away, it just becomes second nature to ignore them. They aren't real cravings like I had in the first couple of months after quitting, they are more like fleeting memories I suppose - I combat them with memories of how much they stink and the disgusting taste they leave in your mouth should you falter. That makes them go away pretty much instantly. :D

the first time I quit all my cravings were gone after around 6-9months and other peoples smoke smelled very different.

so far my cravings aren't to bad this time around although I'm in a poor mood most of the time

Why don't you try vaping? ;) :p

I had tried numerous times over the years to quit (20 a day for about 10 years), the thing that finally made it happen though was a trip to China. For two weeks out there I smoked Marlboros, when I got back to the UK every brand of cigarettes just tasted repulsive. I physically couldn't stand the taste of anything I was trying so after a few attempts at different brands I quite happily just stopped caring.

Been smoke free for three stressful years since and I've got no desire to go back to it.

My fiancée smokes. She started when she was about 11 and she's 31 now. I'm absolutely desperate to get her to stop...she goes through phases of smoking e-cigs mixed with normals but she never sticks with it. She probably averages 10 a day. I know there's no definite answer to getting an individual to stop but if anyone could give any advice who has had a similar smoking duration/ age/ quantity it'd be appreciated. Has anyone used the Alan Carr book and found it works?

Bottom line is, she won't stop smoking until she wants to.

After quitting temporarily 2 or 3 times, once lasting 6 months, I went cold turkey 5 years ago and it worked because I wanted to stop instead of feeling like I "should" stop.

Smoking is a psychological addiction not a physical one. Replacement therapy can make it easier, but it's down to willpower I'm afraid.

You are wrong, look up what the word "smoking" means then look at the title of the thread.

the hard thing about giving up smoking is going without nicotine...
if you are not going without nicotine you have not quit your habit regardless of how the title is worded you know damn well what quitting smoking means

all you vapeheads are doing is trying to encourage people who properly want to quit smoking to start vaping and still be addicted to nicotine.

Been off them for nearly a year now.

You have to want to really give it up and have the strength inside you to just say no. I just stopped but had girlfriend and friends bug me constantly to stop smoking.

I have had the odd one or two here and there but know I would never start smoking again. It costs a lot of money and you don't see the damage it does until you stop smoking the notice the difference.

You don't have to keep vaping, and if you want you can vape zero nicotine eliquids, removing the nicotine altogether (as many in the vapers lounge have done). Are you still smoking then?

If someone can quit outright and wants to do so, more power to them.

I just find there are a lot of people who can't, who don't have the necessary motivation to do so yet, or who really enjoy smoking but recognise the health risks associated with it (I'm all three). For those people, vaping makes a great compromise.

There was no way I could quit smoking, but now I haven't had a cigarette in over 2 years, and it's been so easy. No Mood swings for me :D I'm not selling them, or promoting them. I'm just very enthusiastic about something that has saved me from horrific illness and premature death.

What`s your problem with nicotine?, it is found in many foods naturally.
Can you not see that its the combustion that is the problem?
If someone takes up vaping they are NOT smoking and therefore avoiding ALL the hazards associated with combustion.
If you want you can then decrease the nicotine in the juice all the way down to zero.
You really need to educate yourself about the difference between vapour and smoke.

you are still addicted.... it's a fact

people want to genuinely give up smoking unlike you guys and all you do is come in here telling them to vape instead!
if your still using nicotine you are feeding the same addiction and have not quit anything.
what does that have to do with nicotine being in minute quantities not high enough to get you addicted being in food have to do with anything? so is arsenic it doesn't mean I'm about to start vaping it

Nicotine poisoning describes the symptoms of the toxic effects of consuming nicotine, which can potentially be deadly. Historically, most cases of nicotine poisoning have been the result of use of nicotine as an insecticide.Whereas more recently poisoning typically appears to be due to accidental ingestion of tobacco or tobacco products or ingestion of nicotine containing plants.
The probable lethal dose of nicotine has been reported as between 40 and 60 milligrams (the total amount in about 2 cigarettes if all of the nicotine was absorbed) in adults and about 1 mg/kg in children (less than 1 cigarette)
yea man nicotine is in food it's perfectly safe yo

Water can kill you if you have to much.....
Yes I am addicted to nicotine, but that is not the problem, its the smoke....
You really have a problem with vaping and cannot see the benefits, I applaud you if you gave up smoking the hardcore way but don't go imposing your misguided views on people
who find it more difficult.
Otherwise you just become another member of the health police....
Its the smoke that kills, why is that so hard for you to understand?

no I have a problem with people trying to quit smoking and people coming in here telling them to vape instead.

why is it so hard for you to understand all you guys are doing is encuraging people to still be addicted to nicotine.
if people want to vape let them do it of their own free will and stop trying to force it down our throats
It's hard enough to stop being addicted to nicotine without you guys trying to encourage people to just change the delivery method

Can you not see it's not helping anyone here? all your doing is dangling nicotine infront of people who don't want to be dependent on it
