Anyone able to recommend me a good 26-28" TV?

Hang on a mo.....you're watching TV through scart?

If so why do you want a 1080p TV with processing excellence when you're using pre-digital technology to watch an SD feed?

Unless i've missed something here.

I can't comment on PS's attitude, but you seem to be wanting something a porsche (that you'll only ever drive as punto speeds), on a budget.
You're also being uber fussy about your speakers. And has been said more than a few times, you'll not get great speakers on any flat panel within your budget. But you're only in a small room aren't you? (hence the small screen req). So you need to go to as shop that sounds like and indian meal and try out the relevant sized TV's. Get them to throw SD and HD down it. The shop near me is properly setup for TV demo's, it's really good.

Personally after looking at TALON1973's suggestion of the LG, i'd quite like one of those. IPS panel for much better viewing experience, wifi, smart tv, browser. Good deal if you ask me.
You rarely go wrong with LG panels, or Samsungs TV's as a whole.

As I said, majority will be Freeview (regular/hd), followed by sky over scart, followed by 1080p bluray/dvd.

My concern is those "monitors" just won't give as good a TV picture as a dedicated tv unit would!? Maybe this is wrong, as I it really is just a gut feel.

For some reason I just suspect that 720p dedicated Samsung TV would give a better picture for non-1080p sources than that LG monitor. If that's not the case, and the LG's speakers are fair enough, then it would be perfect of course!

I think Sammy or LG would be fine mate. You always have a few days to buy, try then take back if you go to a high street store.

I'll try and go and look & listen to:-
LG 27" 27MS53V Smart LED IPS Full HD TV - 2x5W speakers
Samsung UE28F4000AWXXU 28-inch - 720p - 2x5W speakers
Samsung UE22F5000 22-inch - 1080p - 2x3W speakers

They're all listed as being at a PC high street retailer I have nearby...

Just spotted LG do a whole range of 27" screen, with the top one being the beautiful LG 27MT93V!!! And it is listed as 2x7W audio!!! Down side is £400!!!! But look at it!:-

£400 is rather mental for a 27", my 40" Bravia was that much and that's before the Sony cashback.

A decent LG or Samsung would be a good bet though, I think.

Indeed! But look at it :)

Shame they don't do a version without all the silly internet faff that's cheaper.

Thing is I'll probably plug in an LG Bluray player (same make to keep compatible) and it will have all the "Smart" stuff so really don't need it on the TV itself!

Excuse me for being stupid .... but what exactly do you use the "old" sky box for ? Are you watching sky content ? If so why havn't you got them to give you a newer box ?

It's a Sky HD box downstairs... Controlled and viewed upstairs (in our bedroom) via a digitsender...

Looked at these LG 27" units today. They basically seemed to come in two screen type. Matt and gloss.

For example, the cheaper LG 27MS73 Smart 27" LED TV has a matt finish, while the LG 27MT93V Smart 3D 27” has quite a reflective finish.

For this reason alone I'd not get the latter. That said the stand on the 27MS73 looks quite cheap and ugly unfortunately, but it is reasonable sturdy, unlike the stand found on the LG 27MA43D which was terrbible. The slightest attempt to press a button on the unit resulted in it rocking by a 1-2cm!

So, so far the LG 27MS73 is top of my list. Picture seemed good, and the audio seemed fine too. If I can check it has netflick we might have a winner. Shame it's not as pretty as other options mind...

a few of the samsung monitors have models with freeview built in.

probably the best bet if you want a decent picture. as has been said, sound probably isnt great but we dont all have the same standards. some people think anything less than £3000 for a speaker is bad. i would hate to be like that. im just as happy as that person but with speakers less than 1/10th of the price.

ignorance is bliss regarding that ;)

My mums got a 32" LCD, so I'm going to borrow it and put it in the bedroom to try it for size... Hoping it infact looks OK :)
