No, their customer service has always been pretty dire for me, and recently the last straw, so despite their quality products I won't be using them again.

This is not encouraging reading, considering I was planning on buying a bike from them in the Spring...

Time to find something comparably cheap, with comparable geometry.

Could you list the steps to doing this? Does this allow for turn-by-turn directions?

Looking online there seems to be so many ways people go about doing this on an 800!

I was going to test it tomorrow by plotting my commute on BRT then putting it on the Garmin. I don't want a breadcrumb trail though, I want proper turn by turn directions.

Go to the site, click "course creator"

Use the map, click on the map where you want to start and where you want to add waypoints (it will work out how to get between your points). If your preferred course isn't chosen, "delete last" and replot.

When finished, use the "summary" tab and write your course to your Garmin (will write directly if Garmin is plugged in).

It's a real shame because the bike builds they do are great. YMMV but I'd rather not give them any more of my money.

ScarletFire has a walk through on using RideWithGPS for the route and getting TBT directions from an Edge 800

I sort of worked that bit out. It's the finer points I'm talking about.:p

So do you plot the entire route as "course" points or should you only use "track" points until you make a turn and use a course point? Should it be TCX or GPX? Once on the 800 do I need to play around with the device settings so it keeps me on the plotted route?

Ridewithgps.com looks like it might be a bit more simple.

yea and those types of people at least in my opinion would be better off just buying an android smart phone for £100 or less and using one of the free navigation software that let's you load custom routes from an sd card.
I was tempted to do that but decided the garmin is worth the money for my needs

Using a smartphone for navigation is not great for numerous reasons:

-Battery life
-Screen visibility
-Bike mounting
-Weatherproofing

There's a reason Garmins sell by the bucketload despite carrying a somewhat inflated price tag.

I use ridewithgps.

I'm just plotting a route for Saturday. My usual co-riders are off camping, and one of my friends has just picked up his first bike (Triban 3 - not sure whether it's the red or white one) so I've asked if he wants to go out for a fairly short, flat one. Something like this should do the job. I think the longest he's done so far is about 20 miles, so this will stretch him a bit, but we can have a coffee break at the halfway mark so it's all good :D

It appears that I only use course points. If you tick 'add course points warning' on the summary then either the course or the Garmin works out the right places to tell you to turn, you don't have to worry about where you put the actual course points when you create the course.

I think I use TCX.

Not according to the FAQ:

I doubt anybody will care when it's a link to a product that OcUK dont sell, but a large part of their product range overlaps with OcUK so i would still consider them as a competitor.

OcUK don't sell Garmin's so it's fine. You can discuss stuff from eBay and Amazon as long as it's not products OcUK sell.

Planet-X might have something compatible in price and set up to Ribble. I've not purchased a bike from Ribble, so I can't comment on their customer service, but I've never had any problems with Planet-X. I got a bike from their MTB company (On-One) which was fine other than arriving without a saddle - they rectified the mistake quickly, and I even got an upgrade out of it.

Only problem with Px is their bikes. Just don't like the look of them.

Yeah the rules are a bit ambiguous, there was a thread in GD a while ago that addressed everyone referring to Amazon as the rainforest though. Which said it was OK as long as it's not a product they sell directly.

I've got another Mont Blanc Barracuda carrier to join the one I already have. I need to switch the side the lever/bar is located and I'm trying to follow the manual to do so. It says to put the lever in the upright position and then on the opposite side of it to unscrew the 'socket'. There is a large black slotted cover on the opposite site which I assume is what they mean but it refuses to budge if I try and turn it with a screwdriver in the slot. Don't want to force it in case I'm doing something wrong.

Anyone with Barracudas swapped over the levers to the other side?. If so some assistance would be appreciated!!

Calpol I believe it was you who replied to my previous Barracuda question, have you any idea what I'm doing wrong?
