*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Still, beyond that, nothing really special there at all, IMHO of course.

Although I agree it wasn't a great conference, it was more to show off the Playstation Brand rather than just the PS4.

Whereas MS do what they usually do and forget they already have a console out there that a huge majority of people will still be playing.

Between this and the Xbox one, I think Playstation wins for me. Why would I want a free paperweight Microsoft? unless it's just to put in front of that camera that's viewing me everytime I play.

Now to find £400 :D

Didnt really tell us what games would 100% be launch day games :/ maybe there doing a separate conference for that i guess

Yeah that was disappointing. MS at least put their money where there mouth is and told us 20 games that would release on release date (granted that date is TBA).

I guess a lot of Sony's list would be the same as they are mostly multiplats, but it would have taken 30 seconds to put a list on screen and read the titles out (maybe a couple of minutes if the guy waited for awkward applause in between the list :)

They've given MS an big opportunity now to say "It's out early Nov worldwide".

Really though, who cares? Unless you're somehow completely on-the-fence about which one to get, a few weeks isn't going to matter.

(I don't mean "who cares about the Xbox launch date" by the way, just that I don't think it's a viable way for MS to one-up Sony)

Price drop for the PS3 and Vita is good. Why won't Naughty Dog reveal anything though... even a name. It's a bit frustrating.

The list was behind him on the screen was it not? I think it was, just the camera direction screwed over everyone watching via stream. I imagine IGN or somewhere will list them.

I think a lot of people are on the fence, thats the point!! Certainly people buying presents will buy the one they see first (parents, grandparents, early xmas shoppers etc).

OK a couple of weeks wont mean much, but it seems like the fight is much more cut throat this time round!

Must have missed it. Although I want a launch day list, not a launch window list (which i believe is all Sony have announced to date).

Oh yeah, I agree it was an overall conference from Sony, but beyond Borderlands 2 for Vita, there was nothing at all that grabbed me, over any device.

As for MS, maybe that's why they didn't do a conference? They just wanted to get some Xbox One info out to the gaming press?

Either way, I thought Sony would try for a home run today, whereas they just seemed to go for a nice safe bunt instead.

Everyone expected Sony to come out with an October release date to "one-up" MS though, so it's only fair if MS do the same thing. I agree though that if you're already decided, the releases probably won't do much for you. It could easily sway some unknowing parents who go into a shop to buy a birthday/Christmas present for little Johnny and find only one new console is on the shelves.

Just out of curiosity, do you own a VITA or PS3? It's hard to get excited about devices you don't own (especially older ones). Obviously everyone is equally excited about XB1 and PS4 as they represent new unknown quantities, to some extent.

I would think little Jonny might have mentioned that there's two consoles coming out and that the unwitting parents will be looking more at the price tag as opposed to the release date.

I get your point and I think it would have been a lot more pertinent 7-10 years ago when everybody didn't have smartphones and are a lot more connected, generally.

Personally I never thought October was remotely realistic, so I wasn't really surprised by the date myself. I guess if people just want "next-gen" then their heart will rule their head and they'll go with whatever is available first, but I think most people will, by the time November arrives, have a pretty good idea of which one they want based largely on the games they want to play.

If it was a matter of months between the Xbox and PS4 I'd see it differently, but they obviously both know they need to be available well before Christmas. Neither of them is going to suffer.
