I recommend everybody wears a helmet, but if you choose not to take my advice, i really dont care. Whether or not other people are wearing helmets makes no difference to me at all, so feel free to do as you like. I dont understand why there is always such a big debate about it.

If deaths are avoidable, I'd rather they were avoided.

Whether or not helmets provide a net avoidance of death is the subject for debate, which is kinda one step beyond the usual helmet debate.

Helmets are srs business. Next up for debate; jumping red lights :D

We've had flapjacks, and waving hello, now helmets, may as well go for the lot.

I think I'd probably agree with that.

I saw some tit the other week riding about on a Pinarello with no helmet and headphones in.

I wear headphones and listen to Radio 4 when doing laps of Richmond Park on a weekend. Traffic volumes are low so I think it's an acceptable risk.

Grado do some open backed sports headphones. The design means that you get leakage in and out, so anyone next to you could clearly ear what you were listening to, but equally you could hear them. I'm thinking about getting a pair, again for when I'm lapping the park.

I really having a hard time finding a Kinetic Road Machine for sale
Amazon marketplace has one, but its £300 (same price as the next model up)
no where else aseems to sell them

no idea where else to look ?

I've tried
Sigma sport
CRC
Wiggle
Merlin
Vanilla bike (£218 here, but sold out)

A lot of deaths are avoidable. If we all sat at home in our beds all day, there would be a huge reduction in the number of deaths.

It's not really practical though, we all need to do things that involve risk. In my view, everybody should decide on their own risk thresholds and, provided it doesnt increase the risk to other people, whatever they choose is fine by me.

am I the only one that doesn't wear a helmet then? I have earphones in too.. well one, other side is off so I can hear around me cars, bikes etc.. :)

never had an issue with this.. my brother used to ride with both earphones in at full blow but he got slapped by me for being a complete idiot..

Guys I need some advice. The single speed bike I bought needs a new rear hub. I'm looking for a flip flop hub with 28 holes in but I'm having trouble finding one. Am I missing something?
Maybe :D

Try searching for '28h flip flop hub' or '28h track hub'. All the usual manufacturers look like they do a 28h.

Go double-fixed, go on, make the change :D

I wear one but I have no problem with others not wearing them as you're not doing anyone any danger other than yourself. I have no illusions about how much protection a helmet would offer me in a bad crash either but you never know, it might save you some injury.

Earphones again don't really bother me as you don't hear much ambient noise in a car either. Again though, I wouldn't wear them myself (although Asprilla's idea of riding round Richmond Park listening to Radio 4 is quite appealing).

I don't wear a helmet but I avoid busy roads and I usually ride when it's quiet.

If I were a commuter then I would get one but I'll likely grab one anyway once I start doing longer rides.
so far I've stayed within 10 miles of where I live so know all the roads really well and I'm always aware of what's behind me

oh wow I have a resting heartbeat sitting reading these forums at 62bpm which is apparently okay for someone my age even though I'm not very fit :O

AFAIK is the only trainer that can simulate this.

You know the old adage of most accidents occurring with one mile of home?

I wear mine taking my kids to the park on the bike and for the one mile trip to the station on my Brompton.

I wear mine because I want my kids to see it as normal. I don't want to force them to wear helmets, but I do like the fact that my eldest (3) puts her helmet on when the plays in the street on her scooter, even though the older kids don't.
