Yes, however TRIM will not be implemented. If the garbage collection is good on that SSD it wouldn't be much of an issue. Tbh i've run SSDs in RAID 0 for years without TRIM to no ill effect and have a laptop with some needed software that won't run on 7 no matter what so i keep XP and use it often, has an SSD and theres no slowdown whatsoever.

Yes. You'll need to set a few things manually, and there won't be any Trim support, but it'll work.

A quick Google of 'SSD XP' turns up plenty of articles outlining the necessary steps.

Yea forgot to mention i partitioned the drive on a Win 7 machine for alignment and turned off defrag. Don't think i did anything else honestly.

thanks for the info had a quick browse of google but i can't make sense of it lol now i know it can be done i will have a big long look at it thanks

Just install it xp and be done with it, I just installed it straight onto my gfs computer with an ssd and it worked.

Boots up in a good 10-20 seconds

Best to partition and format on a windows 7 machine or use a W7 disc to do this before installing XP. Without this the performance may suffer noticeably.

Hi

I recently upgraded from Samsung HDD to Samsung 250GB 840 SSD.

Still using WinXP SP2 and working fine.

The Samsung Magician software helps with the setting up and this http://www.mysolutions.it/tips-migrating-windows-xp-ssd/ provides a good overall guide.

IMO, if you have 2GB or more RAM, I would also try disabling Virtual Memory/Page File.

If you have a choice of AHCI or SATA, most people would recommend AHCI.

Personally I use SATA and feel that AHCI is fine for HDD but IMO not really necessary/beneficial for SSD.

If you can, try both and decide for yourself.

Good luck with the install.

+1

Not to mention Microsoft are putting XP to bed soon and not providing any more updates.

Haven't used updates for ages. No problems so far.

I'm not against using Win7 if starting from scratch with a new PC or Laptop.

But, can't see any benefits in 'upgrading' to Win7 (if you are happy with WinXP) but can see lots of extra costs, installation time, incompatible software/drivers/hardware/peripherals etc.

Might as well consider 'upgrading' to Linux rather than Win7 and would not even consider using Win8.

i was doing more research and it seems like a lot of bother for me im just going to run W7 and if i really need xp just use virtual machine and what would be a better ssd then the Kingston hyper x 3k ssd 120gb don't really want to spend much more then £90 thanks

I didn't realise you had a copy of Win7 kicking around!
