Crossfire 7970 big sham???

Ok everyone a few simple questions and id like to also say thank you for all your posts.

From a recent post on this thread I saw a picture of the enable crossfire page and then a 2nd box under it. I have never seen the 2nd box.

So why could this be... Installed wrong?

I have a sabertooth 990fx do my gpus go into the beige coloured slots or just the slots directly next to each other...

If I was to reinstall the drivers and do it "correctly" what would I do, driver sweeper? Then make sure both cards are in and reinstall them? Is there a certain procedure to this?

Also the crossfire bridge... I only need one right!? Stupid question I know but I want to rule everything out! Also done it the bridge parallel to each other ?

Also what's this pic-e slot configuration in bios some one was talking about, and is three any other settings in bios that could change anything?

I was just making sure that they were being detected with the BIOS.

You only need 1 Crossfire bridge.

Try a full driver refresh, install driver fusion, turn off your net, uninstall AMD drivers, restart, driver fusion, then restart, then install the new ones, turn on net.
Reason for turning off net is that it'll probably try installing drivers from the MS update thing, at least it has always done with me.

Even if you do get this sorted, I'd still heavily suggest the move, or at the very least, DSR the FX9 and get an FX8320 and clock that to the same heights.

What cooler are you using?

That could indicate you don't have a crossfire bridge installed. To be honest though im not 100% sure on this. If crossfire is setup and installed properly though you should have two boxes.

Uninstall old drivers via add remove programs, restart pc, download new drivers, install 13.8 beta 2 drivers. Go.

You only need one bridge connecting one card to the other. If you wish you can use two for aesthetics though.

Some things wrong and even if my CPU was bottle necking a little I should still see my fps rise! I just can't see to find out what! Also when I play a game, GPU 1 is working fine and GPU fans switch on to allow crossfire to work I guess? But when I exit the game my GPU 1 goes idle but GPU 2 stays at 99% usage! Just another strange thing I noticed last night!

Thing is I got this stuff on buy now pay later so I can't just go buying new stuff now and I doubt they will accept a used CPU back. But I will take into consideration for future! So I'd like to get this working to some degree for at least a year when I've paid for it!

Yeah, even with the bottleneck you'll still see a gain.

What's your resolution (Cue 1024x600)

DSR allows for used things to go back, although you should have really asked for advice here first before buying.
With a 7970 Crossfire, I don't even think the die hard AMD Fanboys would have suggest an FX9 (Or even an AMD CPU) to power your Crossfire.

EDIT : LT, we can somewhat work out the bottleneck, when he gets OP gets his rig sorted, you should bench off, I'm pretty certain you'll be posting better FPS in pretty much all games even with the lesser GPU set up.

You need to disable ULPS to fix that. Its a current bug of the beta 2 driver. You can disable ULPS with MSI Afterburner. Download, install, restart, go to settings, tick disable ULPS and restart your pc. Bobs your uncle and Martini is now your mother. That problem should vanish.

Well that's one thing I haven't tried! And are the drivers on amd website up todate because the beta driver doesn't say v2 next to it?

So you thing the ULPS is the problem?
I will do as you said withe drivers a s also the ULPS!
Sounds like there's still hope for my system !

Here is the driver page for Beta 2. Here is the download link for Beta 2.

ULPS has always seemed to cause problems with Crossfire.

Yep its the first thing any crossfire user should disable if they want to overclock. If you run at stock settings its probably ideal to keep it on and benefit from the reduced power usage and gpu 2 physically turning itself off when idle.

Make sure the 2 gpu cards are in the tan colored pci-e slots. Them are the 16x ones i think. The 3rd tan one on the end isnt to be used.

Ok thanks a lot! I'm just abit confused withe the different coloured slots on the sabertooth 990fx as there are too beige ones and then 2 brown inbetween so didn't know wether to stick to same colours. Appreciate your help a lot! I hope I can solve it because there's no reason why I shouldn't be getting more than 30 fps on farcry 3! As that's what I get with 1 card as well as crossfire! So it isn't the CPU bottlenecking if it does it wit just one card. Ill also run the heaven bench mark you asked me to so and post later today if you can check this post later one?
