***ArmA 3 Thread***

How much difference would upgrading my gfx make to Arma 3? Im using an I5 2500k OC'd at 4.4ghz but I only have a 6950 I get like 25 fps in towns with everything on standard and View at 1500-2000.

Not a great deal to be honest. FPS is limited to your CPU mainly and how well the server is ran.

Didn't think so. Still boggles my mind I cant get more than 30fps with a quad core at 4.4ghz considering my PC a year ago was only a single core ha. Enjoying Arma now I have got back into it think Ill need to try join a group as I would love to be involved in large scale coop missions being bossed around.

What kind of things do server hosts do to increase fps?

Well the hardware the server uses helps and also the speed of the connection. Cleaning up the code can help a lot too, as well as having cleanup scripts. I'll save the explanation to the guys here who actually run servers as I only know the basics really.

Well i was on a 570 and ive just moved to a 670 and im running on some servers really crap like 25fps on near ultra settings with a 2700 distance draw but some other servers thats properly setup and isnt script heavy i get 50-60fps with some instances of 45fps average on my new 670.

Previously on my 570 i had to use high settings and got reasonable fps but this was about a month ago with arma3 alpha/beta. Was playable. I think i must have got 30-40fps with it. on mostly high with a few things down that wernt needed like pip.

I think your 2500k at 4.4ghz would be enough to warrant a gpu upgrade. If you fancied more fps with more settings turned up instead of standard.

Okay I have no idea how to set up A3 just fiddled around in one of the scenario village attack missions got a solid 60 fps with everything on high view distance at 3k and objects at 1.5k that should do me fine. Now just need to try get some stable fps in MP games.

I'm telling you now upping your GPU won't do a lot for this game unless you have a really bad one already.

Skeeter you probably received a slight boost because you went from 1.5gb VRAM card to a 2gb model. Wogahamsel already has a 2gb card.

This in a nutshell :)

Servers can also limit view distance, grass and foliage quality and other graphical limits to try and give everyone a fair chance.

A lot of

If {};
then {};
ELSE
{};

And

If true {code} then
Else

Causes a hell of a lot of CPU work on the server, remembering that the Arma Server still really uses only one core for maths and one core for sound, really difficult to balance the load out on servers..

Talking about Vramm, my 7950 uses all available vramm 3gig worth with A3, so I limit it with -vramm = 2800 in my start up options and it increased it by a few frams, don't know how, just did..

Might try that on my 7970 Marker, didn't actually realise it hit 3gb :eek:

I've seen people on servers and the A3 forums complaining about **** poor performance using 690's, 7990's and TITAN's though. I'm still not sure if the game utilises dual GPU's yet.

Maybe my 6950 is missing a few features that the new cards have? that would explain my high fps? i don't know:confused:
Just waiting for dave to sort them MGT server then i'll be jumping back in for more awesomeness!!

I still stand by the chopper was going down and I thought it was going to explode...

What is your name on steam Sari / Thinge? :D

Oh and performance wise, I think it's quite funny really. Ak with his oc'd 2500k had exactly the same fps as me with my AMD 960T unlocked to 6 core (oc'd too ofc). Nothing like a 17fps slideshow on Domination :D

Just had a little run out on a full server, one of AHOYs, so will have a good backend on it.

Vysnc on, view distance set to 6000, object 2500, everything as max as poss, 1920x1080, no post process nonsense though. ULTRA SMAA, FXAA x 8.

I5 2500K at 4.4 with a 7950 at 900/1250.

FPS was between 45 - 60, card temp never went above 62, vramm used was 2780.

That FPS in MP or SP? I've just jumped on the big map, all alone, around 4-5kdraw distance, some 1,4k object draw, almost all turned up, inclusive 4xAA, FXAA, SSAO and other stuff and in town/cities varies around 30-35 (most of the time is 35+) to 60+, depending on the situation. I have a 2500k@4,5GHz and 7950@1170/1600MHz. That's in 1680x1050.

Usually, as a ruff estimate, between a highly clocked 7950 or a 7970ghz ed. and a 6950, the difference is around 80 to100%, even more, depending on the settings or game

The optimization is pretty dire for me in multiplayer, it may say 45-50fps sometimes it but it feels laggy!

Apart from that zombie mod coming up, this has been the worst purchase so far!
