They do we just don't get the Google edition over here unfortunately
Ah well, it's a massive shame, but I guess too few people care enough about it to make it worthwhile to Samsung. My new Nexus 7 is pretty much perfect at stock, where as the Galaxy S4 looks terrible and basically almost every aspect is worse than the stock options. At least it can be easy fixed, but they should really make more effort to make it work properly out of the box for those that can't easily switch the ROM and/or worry about the warranty etc.
Check what is running in the background.
I'm always closing down apps to help preserve battery.
If you want pure google just go straight for the google edition ROM, no need to be using something like foxhound to make it look more stock when you can have it completely stock if thats your bag.
FX/CM10.1/CM10.2/PA etc all have plenty of extras you might want however, I get that!
Thanks mate, I'm actually running CM10.1 on my old SGS2 and the decided on the Google Edition on the SGS4 before I saw your post (could have done without having to change the ROM on a brand new phone though). I really like CM10.1, but wasn't sure if it was reliable enough for my new phone, as I exclusively used the nightly builds (i.e. I don't mind crashes on my old, battered phone, but I'd rather the new one ran with as few crashes as possible).
I'll consider my options in a few weeks, as at the moment I'm short on time to work out what's best for me in the long-term. I appreciate the tips and will do some research at some point.
No worries, the beauty of the GE ROMs you'll find on XDA is they're built by google for the S4 so they're pretty flawless.
People have obviously started modding them a bit but they're fundamentally created from something thats retail ready so wifi/bt/camera etc all work fine.

I'm interested in this whole custom ROM thing, never tryed it before, From what it seems it looks very simple to do, but i'm so bloody confused as to what ROM to chose, i want something as close to plain simple stock android as possible, none of this touchwiz, or bloat nonsense, however keeping as many of the S4s features, like the camera, etc fully functional.
Can anyone suggest a ROM that would suit my needs and perhaps provide a link if that's not asking too much.

Pretty much the Google edition ROM for the reasons that Matt said. It's stable and takes away all the crap. You can get good guides by Google search, but all I can add is that I used Odin 1.85, rather than the Android developer tool. The techno buffalo one is clear and links too all required files for root and ROM change. I can help if you get stuck, 1h max if you take your time and go steady like I did. Can be done in 10 mins though.

Correct, it's a "clean" version of stock rom with performance tweaks. You'll still be able to use all the marketing features and such, but just less bloatware apps (many of which you can download yourself later if you wish)
Foxhound is the closest ROM available [as possibly Wanam which i dislike] to stock S4 rom.
Install the "Slim" version of the rom and it does not install any of the bloatware. You can always download any Samsung stuff later if you need to through the Over The Air Update. Its themed like Stock Android too.
Foxhound + Nova Launcher + Widget Locker = no TW!

Google Edition Rom sounds like what you need. I've tried it and it is BASIC. So basic that i got rid of it after a day. Its fast but that's because its basic. The good thing about it is that the camera is still great unlike any of the AOSP roms.
If you want to keep as many of the S4 features then you want a TW based rom such as Fox Hound or Wanam. These retain the features of the S4 but remove the bloatware. Fox Hound is leading the charge with lots of updates but Wanam is dragging its heals in recent months.

Managed to update Probam to 4.4.3 last night.

I have noticed it has changed the messaging icon the the blue one and now uses the dark theme! The settings menu has been changed to a more normal setup from the menus on the left then options on the right that it used. The option to save photos has been added to the camera. Good update for me

Your settings menu is still TW tabbed style. Hate it.
I find it highly amusing when people cannot stand a certain layout (theme/skin) and then this drives them to levels of arrogance beyond that of a rock star. Android has done this to me! . Who do I think I am. Now... where are my meds
I think he was just being ironic - I don't like the TW settings menu either, but I don't literally hate many things in life.
