Excellent attitude, grudas. Keep it up - we'll rival the lifters yet.

The bike is 6061 aluminium with a carbon fork, and it's got Shimano's bottom of the range gears. So the red Triban 3, assuming you can find one in stock anywhere near you, has what over it? Better gears? A bit lighter? Yeah, that's about it. If you want to get that fussy about it, nothing at this price range is great, not even the much vaunted Triban 3.

At least he didn't buy the Carrera TDF.

+1

My first bike was a 1980s Peugeot roadie in black with the yellow/orange/red accents (you still see quite a few of these around). Suntour downtube shifters and a 7 speed rear block. By most people's standards it was a POS but I loved it and it got me cycling, that's the main thing. Was gutted when I crashed it and broke the frame. :(

Hmm, getting increasingly annoyed with the lack of cadence feedback from my sensor.

Trouble is that if I do send it back, I'm dataless until it's fixed.

One minor faux pas though, I forgot the belt for my trousers!

Dude, I've forgotten my trousers before so don't worry about a belt!

Leave as much at work as you can. I leave shoes, trousers, wash kit and I try to leave a spare shirt / underwear for emergencies. Also leave a jumper and a coat if you can. Saves schlepping it in every day.

Edit: In other news, arm warmers this morning :(

Crank bolts came loose again halfway though the ride and I had to stop and do them up. I'm currently working my way though the Locktite Threadlocker range in increasing order of break torque.

Yeah, I've got a locker which I dumped most of that stuff in yesterday, but forgot the belt and a change of boxers! Lesson learnt. I also forgot to hit the record button on Strava which is displeasing! Cyclycomputer says 28 mins for 12.2 km. Wasn't going at it or anything, just nice and leisurely for my first time and I didn't want to aggrevate my hip joints.

LOL.. grudas but if you don't "mean to be rude" then maybe avoid saying things like "bike is POS"?

Let's just agree that it's not the bike you would have chosen but I'm sure it'll be just fine and it'll do everything that a Triban 3 would have done!

it'll do everything yeah but ALL I'm trying to say is that you could have got a better bike for the same price, I'm not saying "oh my first bike was better" all I'm trying to say is that while you have a chance why not return it and get something better for the money? and this is the way I express my self if you find it rude well ok ?!

It's as if you lot agree that its better paying more for less.. well mkay I guess I just have this mentality where I always try to get the most BANG for my BUCK.

:o

Just look at the Fred Whitton route and cut a few sections off :)

I had a look at Hardknott and almost fainted, then looked at the Fred Whitton and wanted to change my pants. Some serious amount of climbing available down there! I'll have a word with my pal and look into incorporating Hardknott and a fair chunk of the Fred Whitton route. Cheers for the suggestions! Looks like I better get out tonight and start climbing climbing and climbing.

It's not. It's a similar spec to the Triban and slightly more expensive. It's hardly a 'pos'.

So, the same as the Triban then?

are we looking at the same bike? are you genuinely saying that viking has the same quality kit as triban? nearly full 2300 kit vs shimano shifters, derailleur that I've never seen in my life and bars that look like they were made for a fixie...

Nobody is saying that at all.

Which is just wrong, so people are pointing that out.

well I think you're wrong so bite me? :) triban 3 is a proven thing, reviewed and trusted brand, viking make cheap bum bikes that have little to no kit for the price.

I genuinely can't be bothered with this discussion anymore and ill state it again IMO he should have got a different bike.

badum tsshh.

Pretty much.

Both have an alloy frame
Both have a carbon fork.
Both have similar wheelsets.
Both have low-end shimano drivetrain
Both have a random crankset
Both have non-shimano brake calipers.

I'm not saying that the viking is better value, just that i cant see any big differences between them.

Right after I buy 4 x GP4000s tyres I find out theres a new Continental GP4000s II. :(

Regular 4000s obviously suck now they're completely obsolete and useless *rage throws in bin*

dunno just the way the bike looks would put me off.. seat is fat/off a bmx-ish bike?! wheels look really odd for w/e reason.. bars look out of place it looks like it was put together by someone who didn't actually know what he was doing.. triban 3 IMO looks like a proper road bike even if it has the low end shimano components.
