Does anyone own a Type R EP3 or Audi TT Quattro 225?

Why?

21y/o, 1ncb, main driver with parents as additional, from a recent comparison site, cheapest was around the £750+ mark.

Not bad considering that was around the same price i paid for my 1.2 clio last year. (£468 now)

a lot of insurers refuse to insure people on an EP3 if they are below 25.

if yours getting 750 or thereabouts, then snap it up as the postcode lottery is being very kind to you.

may be worth trying a specialist to add mods etc.

Wow guys thanks a lot, ill see where i go after test driving both :D

i can get insurance on an EP3 and a TT (the 1.8T 225 not the V6 Ha), the insurance prices are quite high still at the £3000 Mark but this is much cheaper than what i was paying, my first year on my 1.1L Peugeot 106 cost me £5800 to insure YES A 1.1L!!! (and for people who dont believe me i will happily scan in the insurance documents and show you!) Ive never had a crash or had insurance cancelled, my first year was just stupidly dear.

im falling for the EP3 and was considering buying a VTEC controller to tune Vtec to kick in at 4500 Revs as this to me is the perfecr rev range

I doubt i'd insure a GT4 or Supra mate

Thanks guys!

I'll agree on the Postcode lottery, i've done numerous quotes on ridiculous cars.

Supra - surprisingly cheaper then an EP3.
DC5 - about £1200
and just to take the mick, Aston Martin DBS - .....£968 HA!

£5800?? I really cant believe you could only get insurance at that price unless you live in a rough area and have a bit of history!

£5800...did you get done for drink driving before you learnt to drive or something?

nope, you will need a hondata ecu mod. a lot of these cheapo vtec timers are a very bad idea and will not do your engine any good.

a hondata ecu mod will allow a proper tuner to tune your car. tuning hondas is very expensive and the gains are slim without a lot of supporting mods.

a brief breakdown of costs to get a 200BHP K20 equipped honda to ~250BHP
  • RBC inlet and adaptor fittings @ £300 new - £250 2nd hand
  • decent race manifold @ £400-£1000
  • Enclosed Air intake [i suggest Gruppe M as it is awesome] @ £400 2nd hand - £800 new
  • Decent Cat back exhaust @ £500 2nd hand - £1000+ new.
  • Hondata K100 @ around £400 or KPRO @ £700+
  • dyno tuning @ around £300-400

if you end up getting one, i would suggest not bothering with power mods and doing the following

  • LSD
  • Fast Road Set Up [camber bolts for front] dont bother with lowering springs
  • Good Tyres
  • JDM Rear ARB

that will cost less and make the car handle much better.

I do like that Teg a lot, being a K20 like the EP3 its insurable for me!

Thanks, i might check that out as my cousin has a DC2 he'll be in favour of that lol

a DC5 will cost more than an EP3 as it is an import. A DC5 quote for me is double my EP3 quotes.

It is :)

Guessing you have a Honda mate? :D

sure do.
log of it here :)

Yes £5800 and i looked around for cheaper insurance for 4 months after passing my test, this was the cheapest so i went for it. I could have had a "Black Box" fitted but i did not want to be limited

My area isn't the best but also isn't the worst
i dont have a bad history mate, im a good boy :D everything was done legal. i insured the car as a student which could have been why it was so expensive, but then i landed a job as a network technician which bought my insurance down but the car was already insured so i left it.

i then got 1 years NCB and bought a seat ibiza 1.4L which i insured for £991 so after my first year insurance came right down.

oh right thanks mate, is a hondata ecu mod better than buying a Spoon ECU?

if i do go down the dc5 route i will be sure to go for the handling option, but like you say it is an import and the insurance might criple me so i might go for the EP3 for now and when funds allow me to ill go for the Teg

Wow i love your honda pal, one of the best examples i have seen! its clean and looks mint. DC5 box with LSD, me likey :D
is that a Spoon N1 backbox?

oh right, it is time to renew soon so ill remember that

Thanks for all your help!

I had an EP3 until last year. Most reliable car I've ever owned and great fun. But like others have said, you're comparing apples with oranges. So i'd consider what you want to do with it, and test drive both.

oh right thanks mate, is a hondata ecu mod better than buying a Spoon ECU?

yes as it is tuneable. the spoon ecu is just a standard ecu with a basic tune. a Hondata ecu is the only way to go.

it ill be the main killer, especially for someone your age. give it a go by all means but i reckon you would have to find a specialist and be very lucky.
if i had the option to do it all over again, i would have a DC5 in a snap.

yeah, it has a load of other stuff too. the DC5 gearbox was the best mod i have done. that and the AD08 tyres :D

Thanks for all your help!

computer analyst gets the consistently lowest quote for everyone who works here at OcUK. thought i would mention it to help you.

no problem man, hope you get the right car for you anyway. :)

Oh i see, hondata is the way forward then huh ;)

Well if i can come across decent insurance prices for the DC5 i might look into them, Adrian Flux insurance might be able to give me a competitive price :p

Sweet, i know it has had a lot of stuff done to it after reading your log! Mint gearbox and tyres and the Premier Edition seats are a very nice touch. Is the spoon N1 backbox overly loud or like the right tone? i always wondered.

It does mate! the cheapest quote i found on an EP3 before was £2755, I re-quoted and stated i was a computer analyst just to get an estimate on price and i found a quote for £1801!!! Thanks so much mate.

I think i will go for the EP3 and with the pennies i save on insurance i might treat myself to a new Graphics card from you guys at OcUK :D

Thanks again
