4930K benchys early look. Conclusion.. Meh.

The enthusiast PC could become a very limited market in the future, driven only buy the few with the £££ to say mine is faster than yours. people's needs change and with the new consoles due out soon even more will ditch the PC gaming desktop!

And others will discover the joys of PC gaming.

PC gaming is going from strength to strength, despite "dying" for 20 years.

Meh - Intel are milking us aren't they??

I am wondering when my i5 2500K overclocked @4.5ghz is going to feel "old". Certainly the last couple of generations don't seem to bring much to the table except a higher cost and more heat ...

I read that research shows the opposite, like the larger the install base of console gamers, especially the younger players, is beneficial for PC gaming. This is because as those gamers mature they gravitate towards the PC. Today's console gamers are likely to become future PC gamers. The PC gaming market is having a massive resurgence atm. Not only in game sales via digital distributors like Steam but also in hardware sales to power the latest games.

While the traditional desktop PC buying market is declining, the graphics and CPU upgrade market is becoming huge, what this means is people are getting smarter, building / upgrading their own PC's rather than buying a pre built unit.

PC gaming has outlived every console made so far.. When PS3 and Xbox 360 are put out to pasture, PC gaming will still be here, better, overall cheaper, and under appreciated :p

I don't really agree what you are saying that the PC has out lived the consoles as you still need to upgrade in order to play newer games at decent settings.

I think you may have missed my point bud, that guy above was saying consoles will replace PC gaming. What I'm saying is for decades people have been saying PC gaming is dead, it's dying etc.. It's still here.. Many consoles have come and gone, and what we see is as console gaming grows in popularity so does PC gaming. With new console growth comes new PC growth as young console gamers turn into older PC gamers.. The trend continues as it has from the start..

Why would a gimpbox replace the PC? A cut down version locked to all modifications, totally reliant on sony/Ms software and at best 60 lags per second sorry i mean frames per second! Granted im a bit envious of how smooth all console games at 60fps do seem to run when its constant 60fps everything else is far out weighed by a PC.Most of the games run at 30fps and when they can crank out 60 they all downscale sub 720p.No doubt the same will happen with the PS4 and they have games running under 1080p again.

Hydra support, occulus support 1000hz input mice and keyboards, customs mics and soundcards and headphones and no screaming kids twelve year olds on comms.I am about as anti console as you will ever find. And as for it helping out PC users all it has done is give us crappy ports until they decided to make it more like a pc with the PS4 (shock horror) but yet again we are still getting shafted.

Has no one else noticed the rise of the £550 GPU? And what about upcoming games like AC black flag,BF4,COD all minimum £30.Hell the PS4 games are now £55.Im happy that with 4930k or 4770k you will still be in a different league than the gimpboxes and have the choice of paying or not wink wink lol.

The thing is that chart is based on predictions based on consoles, Xbox 360 and old PS3 when the new ones come out and offer much greater speed and interaction there will be a console boom and a lot will leave PC gaming to go back to consoles. PC gaming has increased over recent years but only cause the old consoles couldn't cut it.

But with the new consoles and even better interaction and now sony has ditched its own GFX chip based codeing the consoles will see a boom in sales and game dev's will support both sides easily.

I hope PC gaming is here to stay but lets look at next years charts and see what they say before comparing 6 to 7 year old console sales.

Agreed

For me it's a natural progression from console to PC,

as you get older you want a better experience

perhaps the young console gamers of yesteryear turn to PC gaming as they no longer have to rely on mum and dad to pay for it!:D

swinging 2 titans past the wife becomes a whole new issue though ha ha

I think the going rate for that is a new bathroom or kitchen :D

Disregard women, obtain greater FPS.

Also speaking of that chart, does it even include online PC game sales? The majority of them don't even include Steam from what I remember. Let alone all the other distribution platforms.

Thank good i dont have or plan to hae a wife. I just buy for my PC whatever i can afford :D
Anyway when i am looking at 780 prices i rather buy PS4 + some TV with total price not far off just a card itself.

On other hand REAL kick for pc gaming should be Oculus rift. I see that happening as a 3D gamer :)

A TV worth buying is gonna be £500 bare minimum, they don't put the decent tech in anything under 40" you know. Then you have PS4, cost of the stuff Sony won't bundle, games, DLC wallet pillaging (pay to win console mindset), adds up to easily over £1000.

And yes that graph is gamestop, do they even sell PC games?? This is why Steam needs to publish sales figures.

So people seem content with 5% improvement on the new CPU's that replacing the now 2 year old CPU's.

I'm quite happy that i have been rocking my 920 since 2009, it still holds its own in games. it doesnt look like CPUs are going to be huge leaps and bounds these days, while its nice for some people to have something amazing to upgrade to every 12 months, i think i prefer this in some respects.
GPUs are better to upgrade more often.

Though i guess i do feel like the whole evolution of things may be being held back by all the factors at play here (console ports, intel owning the market, physical problems with getting any smaller).

Thats the whole point of a PC. It prevents you from running 10 year old tech and pretending nothing has changed.

Also what constitutes "decent" settings? If you just want to match the graphics and resolution of consoles, even and older PC can happily chug along.

Like others here, I find that slowly console gamers are trying pc gaming, and then moving over to it. They'll still play consoles for exclusives though.

I think 2 or 3 years into this console generation will see more users migrate to the PC. There isn't the hype there one was with console gaming.

How the hell did we get from talking about a 4390K to consoles?

It doesn't look like there will be any more reviews till Tuesday but basing off what I have read on the Hardocp review I don't think I will be going for a 4930K. 4.6Ghz @ 1.4v is a disappointment. :(
