Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [31 August - 01 September 2013]

Giroud is coming good. I have heard that the trick with strikers is to give them chances to score though. Hint hint United.

I'm very worried that he thought today's performance was good though, he's even said it was our best so far... We barely created a decent chance against what was a mid table side (and is likely to be a bit better this season at least).

Fergie did that constantly though, apparently this is what "cut from the same cloth" means.

Some real nice play going on, last touch is poor.

Our play in the last third has been poor in our previous games, hoping we'll work on this as the new players start to settle in.

Our crossing has been pretty bad too, we're not making the most it.

Woot had to be Giroud...finally scores a goal

1-0...come on Arsenal another couple of goals to kill this game off.

Not a vintage performance but I'll take 1-0 wins over Utd any day of the week. Didn't do enough with the opportunities we had to break on Utd (our final balls were abysmal) but all in all we defended very well and limited Utd to even fewer chances than both Stoke & Villa.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but Borini's got to be off. To have not made the bench today with who we had out has got to mean he's got a move lined up.
Purdy curled up in a ball sweating and shaking, I can see it now.

I wasn't far off that to be honest. If we're going to win every game 1-0 can we at least sign Mascherano to make me feel a bit more comfortable. The way our midfield gets opened up coupled with Enrique at the back is going to give me a heart attack soon.
Go wild everyone, woo!

I'm not taking the ****, that sounds very similar to something Hodgson said after losing to Everton when he was our manager.

At least Moyes didn't laugh and joke with Rodgers straight after the final whistle though.
That's what you get for ******* on the fans, players and a former manager. Not welcome.

Topped off a very good game :D

He's the type of defender we need for games like these but for the majority where we'll play higher and have more possession he doesn't really fit in. Club will have to decide if they want to keep a high earner for the odd outing or not.

Skrtel's so frustrating, he's got everything to be a top class CB. He's as big & strong as they come, faster than people think and also much better on the ball than people think.

He seems to be fragile mentally and struggles when his confidence is low but also has a habit of getting a bit complacent in lesser games. Agree with what you said about games like today are made for him - not just because we were sitting deep and had a lot of backs to the wall defending to do. He seems to pump himself up for the biggest games and any concerns about his form or confidence go out of the window.
