Bale was signed for around £12m and he won...worthless cup? And goes for £85m

That's the going price this window, it's crazy but that's how it is.

If it was the middle of the summer then maybe it would have been less but I doubt anything less than £35m would have got him.

I think the difference is that we didn't want him to go.

Here, RM want rid, Ozil wants out and they are making a huge profit. I didn't realise he was in the last year of his contract when he signed for RM though.

Arsenal must be more desperate to spend that RM are to get rid. Hilarious as fans were singing dont sell Ozil at Bale's deification earlier today.

So 42mil + at least 6mil/year for 4 years you'd expect for a position we actually have starters, and cover, and cover for the cover... but we gave up on Ba, a quality striker, for the sake of 1.5million in a position we have one fairly unproven striker and no depth at all, no sign of the fullbacks or CB we need, no sign or a natural winger or defensive midfielder, but Arsenal fans are happy because we spent 42million on one player...........

We've re-signed Trotta on loan. The guy who hit the bar with a last minute penalty and cost us promotion, whilst snatching the ball from our regular penalty taker and captain. And he's from Fulham.

COME ON! Really? Jesus. The Brentford forums crashed within minutes of the news being released.

Remember that - captain should've taken it back regardless, he obviously didn't want to take it.

Because they seem to know we're desperate, if RM didn't know a club was desperate he would have been offered to a bunch of clubs at half the price like VDV, Sneijder and anyone else they shove out the door after a hugely expensive buy. Had Arsenal bought the defenders, DM and striker we needed and only had 15-20mil left, you can probably assume we could have gotten Ozil for a steal. Instead we spend way more on a player that won't make a huge improvement.

If he drops Walcott and plays Ozil wide right, he's certainly worth buying and it would be a huge improvement in the team, but not at 42mil. I suspect we'll either drop Podolski or push Santi wide for Ozil, which overall won't have a huge increase in quality in the team. Because Ozil for me is better than Santi, less good than Podolski on the wing but the increase from Santi-Ozil in the middle will be offset by how rubbish Santi gets from moving out wide.

At the moment it comes down to whether we can produce €6m and complete the necessary paperwork before midnight (with our extension).

I think, anyway.

if it down to those two issues then they are both achievable. you should be looking to put in the extra cash required and paperwork should be a formality. unless you've borrowed levy's fax machine from the moutinho farce?

I wake up thinking everything would have been completed. Arsenal would have signed Ozil, and United would have signed two decent midfielders. Instead they're all been dragged in to the last hour. Madness.

Apologies, are you a Chelsea fan (out of curiosity, can't work it out :p!)?

Yes :p

Though perhaps "lapsed fan" would be a better description, as I haven't been to a game since I moved out of London six years ago.

I agree that it's better Lukaku goes out on loan to a club that will give him premiership game time, rather than having him sit around warming the bench. But I'd like to see him starting in big games. For me, he's exactly the kind of player Chelsea need. Eto'o seems a shadow of his former self (lacking pace specifically), and Torres has had more than enough in the way of chances. If it weren't for his inflated pricetag, Torres would have been long gone by now.

I think you're right. As a spurs fan that makes me happy.

I expect £25m would have sealed it if Wenger wasn't running from club to club with £40m. RM have managed to get more money out of Aesenal for a player they wanted less than their first target of the season who was also being sold by RM. Madness

Maybe Wenger is on Football Manager ebay and drunk buying. Tomorrow he will wake up and take delivery of his new "buy it now" player
