What is the point of buying and instaling a 64GB or 128GB SSD when it Very Quickly fills up with Microsoft Updates. ?
I had 56Gb Free of a 128GB over a month ago, No new installed programs on it, only Updates from MicroCrap. So far microcrap has given me about 20GB of updates in a month, leaving me with 36GB Free..

Don't you think it is about time MicroCrap stops majority of these updates, or manufacturers of SSD drives bring the prices down so we can install 256Gb ssd or bigger.

To be Honest, I Love my SSD as it is FAST, but if it fills up any more I'll be going back to a HDD and put up with the slower start up...I'll then use my 128GB ssd as a scratch disc for photoshop...FED UP!

do all the tweaks you can,i also have a 60gb ssd

reduce pagefile to 2gb too

plus you don't need to install the majority of updates tbh

I had an 80GB Intel X25M and never filled it with Win7/Office/Apps, just kept my media and steam on a mechanical drive. Not sure how you're using so much space. Turn off hibernation if you don't use it.

Use disc cleanup to clear up old installation and update files too.

I had a 60GB SSD with Windows 7, Adobe Creative Suite and all my applications on it (excluding games) as well as an 8GB page file and I still had 9GB left.

I had an OCZ Vertex 30gb that i used as my main boot drive for ages :)

now ive got a Kingston 120gb and more than half is empty

these sizes are totally fine when are just using them with your is and a few bits plus you can always raid them to get a bigger size anyway.

Size isn't everything... (apparently :p)

I have a 64GB SSD which is more than large enough as an OS drive. Running windows 8 and have 20GB free.

I thought 128g was small so bought a 240g - and down to 183 spare and only got window's 7 and AVG free on it -Have office to go on yet -- So how do I tweak it.-- I am waiting for new 1T HDD to come to supplement it but how do I load program's to that disc if there isn't a "Program files" folder - i am talking camera program's etc that I don't want on SSD.

There are some bit's to PC's that I can get my head round but this isn't one of them.

Most installers will allow you to select where you want the software installed.

I use a 120Gb as my main drive and all software is on there apart from Steam.

Make sure you have things like hibernation switched off (uses the same space are you RAM size), disable system restore if you do not use it and keep personal files (user folder) on a different drive.

As said I use a 120Gb (111Gb in the real world) and it is only got 52GB on it with all my apps.

On a side note I personally would avoid AVG for the moment as during the last week I have had 12 systems into me for repair with a corrupt user profile and whilst I do not know the exact cause of the problem the only commanality was AVG installed on them all.

Are your Documents/Pictures/Music/Download libraries on the SSD as well?

I've got just windows and all my programs installed on my SSD which is 128gb and still has a fair chunk free, all of my libraries point to my 1tb mech drive though.

I agree, somethings not quite right. I have the best part of 75GB free on my 128GB drive with plenty of various applications and programmes on my ssd with all updates installed. System restore is disabled.

Hmm. I have a 120GB SSD and have just over half of it free (61.3GB of 111GB free to be exact). Got Windows 64 Bit, all updates, MS Office 2010 (With all updates etc), all my old retro games (Doomsday, Emulators etc) All my programs and even have 20GB worth of ArmA II: Combined operations and DayZ with a few mods on it also.

The only thing i have turned off for my SSD is System restore and moved Temp files to my secondary HDD.

What is he doing wrong???
I too have a 120GB drive with CS6. LR4. AUDITION. AUDACITY. REASON. PICASA.
A few steam games and all the needed utilities on W7/64 with 45GB free.

You must be doing wrong OP, I still have ~26gb free from my 64gb M4 after 2 and a half years.

This really.

I also have a 64 gig SSD with win 8 + all apps (business ones only, so fairly economical on space)

I have 30 Gigs free!

It shows no evidence of filling up, however I do regularly do a disk clean up (Nothing fancy, just the win8 tools one) making sure that I check the "Clean up system files" option box. Though I haven't tested this theory I suspect that if one does not do this (Check the systems files box) then it will indeed eventually fill up with downloaded update files.

As mentioned, sounds like a problem on your end. On my 64GB SSD I've got Windows 8 (previously Windows 7), Visual Studio, Office 2010, 3ds Max, Zbrush, UDK, VMWare, most of the Adobe CC suite, Dark Souls and various other smaller applications but still have 10GB free. The only Windows setting I've changed is disabling system restore.

If you load up an application like FolderSizes, which folders contain the most? One of the old nVidia drivers had a bug where it filled C:\Windows\System32\config with additional unneeded junk (~1MB per minute, continuously), might be worth taking a look at the size of that folder if you have an nVidia graphics card.
