Shopto update

Asked for a refund which they have issued immediately. Pointless service.

How is this the retailers fault if you didnt pay attention during the order process? It would have also detailed this on the order confirmation. Full refund straight away as you requested is decent service. They done everything you asked. But guess the customer is always right....*

*If you have worked in retail you know this is nonsense!

I asked, and was told before I purchased top-ups, that money stored on my account would be used for pre-orders.

I was referring to their "account balance" service as pointless.

So, with the Hyinx memory factory going boom, and GDDR5 prices shooting up, the next batch of PS4's might be in rather short supply.

Other memory producers have put their shipments on hold. For a nice spot of profiteering.

Sony have contracts for GDDR5 RAM with three companies: Samsung, Hynix, and Elpida. And in response to the fire and sudden loss in production, Samsung and Elpida have apparently just risen the price of GDDR5 by 15%.

I've been to game midnight releases FIFA and COD at a large 24hr Tesco before and i've been in a Que over 150 people.. Consoles will be a even bigger deal i suspect, i wonder how many consoles they will actually have in store, i imagine they would take a lot of space.

This is being blown out of proportion. Apparently that particular factory had recently moved focus on to flash memory rather than RAM anyway, so issues are more likely to arise with SSDs etc

I don't know exact the details of how these things work, but I would imagine that they pay a fixed price per unit/item and this is written in a contract. I doubt the price would go up due to a shortage (although availability would be an issue). The companies are still contracted to deliver whatever amount they agreed at whatever price, no?

Nope, it was rumoured that it was an SSD factory, but it wasn't. That factory was mainly focussed on normal DDR production not NAND, they basically lost 40% of their GDDR5 production capability, plus any stocks that were sat waiting to be shipped out.

Indeed, I didn't mean that prices of PS4's would go up or anything, but that there will be supply shortages, especially with the other manufacturers holding back their supplies. nVidia and AMD will both be wanting to get their hands on large quantites of GDDR5, AMD especially with the up coming 9000 series card launch.

This could put pressure on Sony to be able to ship enough consoles to full fill demand.

I've had mine pre-ordered from the purple shop since 18/6, you think I'm safe to collect mine on the Friday or will I need to be at the midnight launch to get it?

If it's pre-ordered then it is reserved for you (whether they open at midnight or not). However, I do recall from previous launches that some shops are quite quick to deallocate yours and sell it off if you don't collect it within a day or 2 of release.

I spoke to my local game manager about my ps4 pre order. Since I ordered on the 22nd of June I'm in "phase 1" of pre orders and guaranteed a console on release :)

You have 48hrs to collect it or it'll go to someone else.

I bet M$ sent an elite hit squad to cause the fire

Hopefully be in short supply, the 5 I'm hopefully getting (all ordered straight after announcement) could make more than I ever hoped for with this memory shortage ;)

/me waits for the hate
