Oh I do realise that they had to release something to keep the rabid masses happy. As I've only said I wish they had put the effort into the dog fighting module which potentially is less than 3 months away now. I can wait for that, I've waited long enough for the game already. Of course if the development streams are completely separate it really doesn't matter :)

They didnt release it to keep the rabid masses happy....they are building the game in blocks and slowly feeding it to us in those blocks.....A) to get feedback and bug reports from users B) to allow users to have a look at the ships they have pledged for C) see potential server loads and adjust to accomodate (they did this already) and allow users to see if their PC will be able to run the game.

The first building block of the game is the Hangar module......then the next block will be the Dogfighting Module at the end of the year and then, the planetside module and so on and so on.

The Dogfighting module will be an extension of the Hangar module, so it had to come first....plus you will have desingated teams working on the different modules...they dont just put all their effort into 1 and then move onto the next.

By the time the dogighting module comes out, hopefully they would have ironed out most of the major bugs so that they can launch the dogfighting module more smoothly.

CR already said that the hanger release is something they would have never done in a traditional development model, it's not even at alpha release level. PC specs have already been stated to be in line with what is available at the game release not what is available now, again from CR. I for one won't be spending any time walking around my ship once the game is released hence for me it has little value. The UI for upgrades etc is what I'll be using in that space, we won't be seeing that for a while. I can't see anything in the hangar module that is going to be relevant to the physics and gameplay mechanics of the dog fighting module. The hangar release is so you can see your shiny ships that you have pledged money for and generate further sales by keeping all involved. I'm too old and grumpy to get excited about it, sorry :)

That's the point being made, its not a traditional development model. If you prefer to think of as a useless "pod" that's been released then that's fine, (in a nice way) go away and come back in 18 months for the whole thing.

The game in many respects has been released albeit in mini "pod" stages which will allow for early feedback and refinement of them. The dog fighting module will bolt onto the hanger and suddenly you have something to actually play etc etc.

Oh and the door at the rear of your hangar... where do you think that's going to lead to?

Oh yeah, another module of the game.

If you're too old and grumpy then that's fine, but at least don't troll just for the sake of it to bring out "the little defenders". If you can't take a viewpoint of someone else without resorting to calling people fanbois then it's better not to say anything at all and spoil the thread, about a game which will inevitably have lots of followers discussing it.

Now I'm a troll for having a different opinion to you  Lots of people are unimpressed with the hangar module from a technical point of view, I'm not saying that at all. I was never expecting much from it all and just wished they had carried on towards the dog fighter module. Feedback on the hangar module as it is will have very little impact on the finished game. Mainly as there is very little to feedback on. You can try to make it out to be more than it is, but I won't.

Edit: In case you may think I am bashing the game, I'm not. I'm still as excited about it as I've always been. I'm just a lot more interested in seeing the dog fighting module. I have the hangar module, I've looked around my ships, I'm now waiting for December (fingers crossed). The hangar release hasn't given me anything that I hadn't already seen from video and media from RSI. Okay I can walk around it myself, but as you've already worked out, that really doesn't do a lot for me.

I just don't think "LMAO, here come the little defenders" comment was ever going to endear people to your point of view, hence why people reacted in a certain way.

The iterative release is going to be a novel way to bring things through to the public, it could be a disaster or it could put the middle finger up at publishers like EA/Activision who release Beta's when in fact they are just demo versions.

Admittedly the Dog-fighting Module will show the game in a different light over static ships in the hangar but I'll still be surprised if they hit the release schedule this year for that.

Apologies if I came across as being an ass, just if there was a hint of sarcasm in your post it wasn't well defined, as is the case with most things typed.

Yeah the Hangar module is just a nice touch along the dev cycle for backers to get to see their ships in the flesh....walk round them and sit in their ships...nothing more.

Obviously the dogfighting module will be the first taste of how the game will play and I look very much forward to it...but giving us bits along the way is great....rather that than pay my money and not see anything for 2 years.

It was never meant to be a tech showcase, and they have been actively working on the dog fighting module. The idea behind the hangar module is for modular QA on a large scale and to show the community how they are progressing and keep the community involved.

Well that was a response to being someone who didn't know anything about the game :D I'm not bashing the game at all, it's a forum so things appear black and white but they're not really :)

The "Rabid masses" comment wasn't meant in a bad way either, we're all aware of the expectations and widespread love there is for this game :)

I'm not bashing the Hangar module for technical content at all, it is pretty much what I expected it to be. My personal issue with it is that if it took resources away from the dog fighting release (I got the impression that it was all hands to the pumps for the hangar release) and it impacts that release I would rather that they had just pushed straight on with the dog fighting. Hell if the dog fighter module doesn't even feature a hangar and you instance straight into space combat I couldn't really care any less! :D

Although as I thought about it, if they are two largely independent development streams then it really doesn't matter at all and you can leave me alone grumbling in a corner with my pint until the dog fighter release :)

There are seperate teams working on different modules. I think they pulled a lot of people together at the end to quickly finsih the Hangar initial release but i at least know there is 1 team working on Hangar, 1 on the spaceport/planet side option and 1 on Hangar

Funnily enough they actually confirmed today on Wing man's hangar that they have separate teams working on FPS/Hangar live module/Planet Side/ Dog Fighting

Anyone got a backup of their system.cfg file cos i modded mine and cant remember what was originally there compared to what stuff i added. Yep forgot to backup. Just to be sure that the fps drop from latest patch isnt stuff in my cfg file thats causing it or not.

Also as said fps was 45+ im sure at 1080p and very high now down to 36 and i think maybe slightly less when just about to step into my aurora.

Also is it just me but switching from very high to medium makes very little if any real noticeable difference graphically except some reflections of the buttons in the ship on the walls? Quite inclined to just run medium tbh when its 60fps constant.

I go to sleep and wake up 8 hours later and its added another 10% to the goal to 19m USD! The pace at which this game is gathering funding is impressive. I've already laid out money for a Freelancer and 325a, but now I'm also tempted by the Cutlass!
