Looking to upgrade one of my internal drives to a 3TB one, but I've noticed my preferred choice of Seagate Barracuda only give a 1 year warranty?
That worries me!?
Any suggestions/alternatives?
What is the extent of the warranty - does it cover the HDD damaging other systems, or data loss/recovery costs?
How about the Western Digital Black drives? If I get a 2TB one?
IIRC, they have a longer warranty, but they still won't cover loss of data.
How could you judge things like photo's of your kids when they were a baby, or that novel you were working on that would have sold millions? It's impossible to really put figures or liabilities (or even prove them) on such things.
Everything is backed up... Just want to have:-
a) A reliable drive (within reason)
b) If it goes in the reasonable future to have it replace. A ONE year warranty sounds utter pants! Two seems shortish!

How long have Barracudas been 1 year?
Last time I looked, I'm sure it was 3.

WD Red drives, built for NAS / 24.7 usage and 3yr warranty:

If WD marketing is to be believed then they are designed for 24/7 and have an increased MTBF. It would suggest a more robust drive so hopefully less issues long term.
Single drive use is fine![]()
