Possibly, but how(is?) accessing that pool of unified memory effected by the differences in HSA bus speed(I don't know)? 30GB/s vs 20GB/s sounds significant, but I must confess I don't have the vaguest idea if that has any practical effect?
The PS4 has two buses called onion and onion+ (stupid names lol) the big fat Garlic Bus that serves the GPU and the normal 20gb/s bus that serves the CPU alone.
From what i can work out is the onion buses share 10GB/s each way, one is a direct link between the GPU, CPU cache and the GDDR5 memory pool, and the onion+ bus looks to bypass the GPU cache. This could mean in many circumstances the CPU bandwidth would be approaching the 30GB/s, looking around though it seems the max thruput for the CPU is around 17GB/s though. The highest bandwidth is resevered for the GPU as obviously that requires as much BW as possible, but it also has direct access to the CPU vi the onion bus, this may help when the CUs are being used to help the CPU.

What really should be being asked is that with this implementation, can the CPU directly access the low-latency eSRAM, because thats actually something interesting to consider, not the bandwidth between CPU and main memory. Hot Chips presentation points to some connection but what we dont know yet what it is, or more importantly why its there...

As I said before its all about the eSRAM and how much of a hurdle it might be or conversely where it might give an unexpected benefit. It doesnt appear to be just unmanaged GPU cache...

EDIT: Also why is it banked?!?

ps3ud0

I'm 100% getting the xbox, but I don't know what to do with my ps4 pre order. I would like both but can I justify spending £350 on something that will hardly get played? At release anyway.

Same boat, the two games I have on order for ps4 are available on xbone. I think I might push back the ps4 (I intended to buy both at launch) til next year when some of the PS4 exclusives that interest me start to release.

Probably just xbox at launch for me and maybe ps4 later.

Amazing that all it took was dangling fifa14 infront of their noses.

Still got to find somewhere to place that ugly kinect though.

Bad news! Quite a few here (including myself) pre-ordered before they did that. Kinect stays in the box.

Why isn't the Wii U an option? It's part of the same generation and it's what I'm choosing over the other two.

It launched 10 months ago, and the poll question is about launch window purchases. Your closest option would be "I will buy neither console during the launch window" as you're buying the Wii U outside the launch.

Nothing for me in the launch window. Wouldn't surprise me if I got a PS4 a couple of years down the line though if some good deals come up.
Had GT6/GTA5 been out on PS4 then it might have tipped me over the edge.

Nintendo might as well operate within their own "generations", their consoles have had little in common with the Xbox or PlayStation brands for years already.

Can't wait for the digital foundry comparisons to put it all to rest.

Even if this is the case, do you honesty think devs/publishers will show this difference on multiplatform games?

The PS4 could be 200% more powerful, it still isn't going to run Forza or Titanfall ;)

Sarcasm aside, I'm not too concerned about the processing power as largely that can be made up by reducing graphical detail and there's more to games than looks.

I'll get both consoles and pick up multi-platform titles for whichever console seems to have the best version and/or exclusive content. If they're otherwise identical then I'll just go with whichever has the better controller (can't tell which that'll be until I get my hands on them).

I'd also expect it to run hotter and louder than the Xbone because of this & its design (if proved wrong, fair enough - but I'd expect something special so it wasn't). Useful in the coldest days, but certainly not in the hotter months!

Why that?

I'm sure both of those games would run just fine on the ps4. Neither "look" breathtaking

I will buy both eventually however will get the xbox one first due to wanting Fifa Ultimate Team Legends and Titanfall.

Both of those titles have swayed me :)
