*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

Worth mentioning if you update to MGG/MF8 you'll have flashed a locked bootloader and can't go back and downgrade (as of now). And that included your nandroids.

Please tell me you're incorrect :(

I've been on this for a while now; stock and pre rooted.

I don't think we want it both ways. We want an open system. The banks want a closed system.

I'm perfectly happy to take responsibility for what I install on my phone, I don't need our want Samsung limiting what I can install for my own protection.

Sorry typo, MGG/MH8 is the latest (and OTA) with the new lock. Your's says permissive and an MGA build, MF8 baseband (modem) so looks ok. If you ever want to ever go back keep an eye on the base and bootloader included before you flash.

CF-Auto-Root for the new SGS4 I9505 firmares (GG, H8, ...)

The new firmwares that came out today have SELinux enabled and set to restrictive. This generally made SuperSU sad.

Other nasty side effects of these ROMs include a new bootloader, a new warranty status inside said bootloader, the apparent impossibility to downgrade after having flashed the wretched bootloader, and a bad taste about Samsung in general.

I guess this all KNOX related or whatever, seeing as it was much hyped in today's unveilings and the ROMs were also released today.

It took all day but it seems like I have SuperSU (now v1.60) running properly(?) again, and I've made a new CF-Auto-Root package for it. Undoubtedly, after I get back all your reports about how it doesn't work at all or even a little, I will update the other CF-Auto-Root's, the flashable ZIP, and the Play Store sometime tomorrow. But not tonight - tonight I am le tired.

While this version should now be compatible with all sorts of Enforcing SELinux shams and other false-sense-of-security-inducing hypeware, it doesn't actually disable any system components. As such, every time you use root, you'll get a nice popup about how your system has been compromised by the nastiest of all attackers (namely, you). To get rid of this annoyance, adb shell or Terminal Emulator this command (after running su , of course):

pm disable com.sec.knox.seandroid

That's about it. Oh yeah - don't run Triangle Away or Mobile ODIN on these firmwares until I've updated them, or your phone will explode. Enjoy!

I was looking at GOLDENEYE, to get to MH8 with the bootloader removed

Be a sad sad day when Samsung start measures to lock out their phones. Unfortunately the vast majority of Samsuug phone users are not technically gifted like us lot and it's to help them with security as they mostly are oblivious to any threat from the 3g/wifi enabled world. The option should excist always should you choose to root it's available, not forced that you can't. Bit like the green fruit thing really.

Just read a rumour that the iP5S camera is remaining at 8MP but will be able to do 60FPS @ 1080p and 120FPS. Was assuming features like that would come with a higher MP sensor as they are appearing on new phones. Could either be brought to the GS4 through an update?

i assume all what it means is that i just dont do any OTA updates from now on and just flash a custom rom as they will remove all the nasty bits?

i know nothing about these things yet and am finding it hard to keep track!

im all rooted now though, and have a custom recovery installed.

just need a memory card and then to decide what rom to flash!

Its got to be done as mine is slower than my old HTC one s atm

Is unlocking the S4 easy? If it is then great, If it's not then I cba, can't see any reason to root it unless it's easy as the phone does everything and the battery life is ok.

MG4 build, MG1 modem, Australian? Anyway, yeah that's pre MGG/MH8/MH5 so no don't OTA. And don't assume any custom rom has the bootloader removed.

It's as easy as an easy thing. Easier if anything.

Samsung Syncadaptors

WTF is this?

No changes to my phone since about a week ago but as of today, this process has absolutely battered my battery (14% left after 12 hours, when my normal usage will see me at 60% to 70% after 12 hours).

The 'force stop' option is greyed out so it won't let me stop it. Tried a restart but it's still there and still as battery hungry as pre-reboot.

In the 12 hours since unplugging the charger, it has had the phone awake for 3h39m and used 1h52m of CPU time, causing almost 30% of the battery usage, with the screen at 25% for 44m on time.

What is this, why has it decided to start battering my phone today of all days and how the hell do I make it stop??

The phone is borderline useless now because I can't use it or the battery will run out before I get home.

It doesn't appear under the Application Manager, unless you mean Samsung Cloud?

Syncadaptor seems to be a suffix for a variety of things.

I've disabled everything syncing with my Samsung account (I didn't even know I had a Samsung account, god knows where that came from) so i'll see if that helps.

Go down to

GT-I9505 Modified Stock ROM - CWM/TWRP/PhilZ flashable ZIP:

Model: GT-I9505 (4.2.2)
PDA: XXUDMH8
PHONE: XXUDMH8
CSC: OXXDMHA (29 codes)

It's had the bootloader and all the bloatware removed, pre rooted and deodexed.

Baseband is the modem, and you can flash that. Make sure it is that though, it's just a tiny file.

And it's a standard feature to select network providers.

It's a good place to start, it's deodexed so all the themes and mods will work and all the crap's been removed. No need to flash the modem if yours works, check the wifi is working that can be an issue after a mix of baseband and build.

Get it on and working, do a nandroid backup for a place to go back to. Other than that, see what mods and themes you like. Then look at the various builds that include what you like, plain vanilla or ones with loads of options. Cyanogenmod, GoogleEdition , MIUI, Pacman. There's a lot to play with.
