*** iPhone 5S/5C - September 10th ***

I don't really get the 5C though, unless your budget is ultra-strict why wouldn't you just get the 5S? Needs to be a good £50-£100 cheaper IMO.

It boils down to simple choice architecture.

As you can see from the general consensus of the thread, people will be buying and recommending the more expensive option and feel good (or at least justified) in doing so. Marketing win.

I don't believe the C was really designed for our markets personally, and it's priced accordingly.

It is a shame that the 5C isn't cheaper but I've said all along, how much cheaper would it be just for having a plastic case compared to the 5. This would have been a good time to double the storage capacities with 32gb HTC ones and Galaxys having SD-slots.

The 5C will gain customers for that moment in the phone shop when It's a choice of the Samsung GS4 etc for free, the Iphone 5S for £100, oh or you can have an iphone for free actually, the 5C. That's how many people make the final decision on which phone to make, and it's not that bad to do it that way. Plastic S4 or plastic iphone.

I rarely use a case. Many people swear by them so for those people, you might as well get the 5C. Ok, it's less to re-sell but it's also less to buy. Add that to the fact you won't ever see the back cover. Whichever you had, you would get people asking you which model you have if it has a cover on, even if there are still slight physical differences.

Incidentally, why do you think they have made the decision not to do pre-orders of the 5S?

Given that they are doing them for the 5C, its not like its something they have ruled out. I can only really think of two reasons:

- It gives them longer to create more stock.
- The only way to have it on launch day is to queue up, thus meaning massive queues, increasing the hype and news reports of record breaking sales.

Just called Vodafone, they are announcing the new iPhone contracts on friday and will take pre-orders for pay monthly/upgrades on friday/saturday.

When do we reckon Apple will finally get rid of the home button which puts a restriction on what they can do with the bezel?

With Touch ID I suppose they think it's here to stay.

I'm glad personally, had a HTC one for few months now and the main thing i HATE about it are the soft buttons.

The 5C will most likely run smoother then the S4 too. Android is improving all the time, but I noticed even in one of the latest Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 hands-on videos there is still micro-stuttering every now and then, and that thing has 8 cores and 3GB of RAM! Let's not kid ourselves, regular users aren't going to be flashing Cyanogen Mod or any other third party ROMs onto it to improve that.

The thing is though with one button you can only really do three things.

One press = Home.
Double press = Multitasking
Long press = Siri.

Is that really much of an advantage over on screen buttons like on the Nexus 4?

Especially when you consider the HTC One is using that space for front facing speakers, which is fantastic when watching video or playing games.

Quick question for you all. Im off to New York on the 26th October. If i was to buy an iphone form the USA would it work over here?

I was considering a 5C until the price came up... Mental.

The 5S looks like a solid update, the finger print scanner is a bit leftfield in a world striving towards touchless interaction though.

Mental prices!

Drop them all by something like £100 and they'd be more reasonable. I'm still astounded by how much companies charge for extra memory! I'd love to see the actual cost of the extra memory; the profit margins there must be impressive!

Yes indeed, it's nothing but pure greed, it does not matter though as they could probably charge an even higher price tag on its products but the apple robots who flock to buy their products will still buy regardless of the higher ripp off price.

Both, probably. Also given most of the phone IS the iPhone 5, they already have plenty of parts for it so they'll have far more 5C's ready next week than they will 5Ss.
