OK as we seem to be rolling back onto topic I'll post an actual response as despite the OP the topic is a very valid one.

WP rounds appear to have been abused multiple times, and I honestly think their use does need to be much more tightly regulated whilst close to civilian areas, but are there any currently viable alternatives for instant illumination / smoke screen?

I haven't had time to go through the paper properly yet, so I'll comment on it later.

If you're pulling rank, then you should at least have found a literature review in a decent journal. That 'journal' isn't even indexed and would never be seen, or given any heed, by the scientific community at large. But of course you know that, right...

No, I haven't even bothered to look at the evidence. I'm not going to waste my time reading an article that hasn't even been through peer-review (you understand about the scientific process, right). That 'journal' (even with inverted commas, I'm using the word in the loosest possible way) simply prints things you send it. Seriously, this is also a 'journal' but it doesn't stop it being full of ****, does it? I assume as someone with a scientific background you know about being discerning with your sources and are only pulling our legs, though ... right?

Yes of course they should be outlawed but they wont be because the Majority of them are in NATOs hands and they are incredibly effective weapons.
They are used in theatres of war far far away, so what if a few hundred foreign kids get born disfigured. Their use probably saved the lives of countless soldiers.
I dont really know how you can argue that DU should be used if there is a viable alternative, has one been developed yet??

Hmm news article (New Scientist) here says ia penetrator of similar density can be achieved with a "liquid" tungsten alloy. It is very old 2003. I wonder if this was ever given the go ahead.

Why didn't you post that in the first place instead of putting in that ridiculous post and deliberately trolling him? Then when he responds to it everyone just kicks off at him. I agree the bit about mentioning his qualifications is a bit snobby.

End of the day this is GD he shouldn't have to post a scientific paper (should go in speakers corner if you wanted that sort of debate) the video is probably enough information for most.
 
What I love about Oulton the best is that he is one of those stinky one worlders who wants the class system destroyed but gleefully uses his privilege against others he disagrees with.
