No iPhone 5S Pre-Order

Their stuff gets delivered quickly so even if you order on the 20th you'll only have to be without your new toy for a few days... as long as you're quick off the bat ordering as soon as they appear online.

That's not my experience. I pre-ordered my iPad 2 and it came directly from the factory in China. Took about at least week.

Again - I could understand if it was the PS4 or something sociable but it's a phone. Absolutely no one, not your friends, not your parents, not your cat, is going to give a rat's ass that you have an iPhone 5S on the day of release, if at all :p

I guess I'm a fairly 'techy' person; my friends and work colleagues would all be interested in the new iPhone, either to play it or have a go at me because they are apple haters :D

The preorder delay for the 5S is presumably to push people towards carrier contracts, which I imagine will be up in the next couple of days.

Carriers have a vested interest in this release given it's proximity to 4G launches, so they'll use the phone's release to upsell existing 3G contracts to 4G.

That's how I see it anyway.

I see where you are coming from.... but I don't see what is in it for Apple, they make and sell the phone and while they obviously have to work closely with the networks, they don't owe them anything, so there is no reason why they would push people towards contracts. Obviously a sale of an iPhone is a sale whoever you buy it from, but if you buy it from Apple themselves, they stand to make the most amount of profit on that sale.

As already said, they are offering the 5C for pre-order, whether you go with a contract or not, which kind of discounts you reasoning.

I would say that they probably make more sales though phone contracts than direct from their website (as most people don't have £549+ to instantly spend on a phone) so it would be fairly important to them to keep a good relationship with the networks.

But yes, having the 5C available for pre-order does make it seem more like a stock/publicity issue.

I wasn't down playing that, but during launch, Apple are set to make a lot of money through direct sales as its the point where many of the people who can buy outright will want to do so.

I'll order the 5S when it becomes available on the Apple store. There's no way I'd attempt to get into an Apple store on a weekend, let alone the release of any new Apple product!

Going with gold, cuz I'm blinging!

Vodafone rep said they are taking pre-orders for pay monthly handsets starting this friday/saturday on the 5c and 5s. With the contract prices being released on Friday morning.

I assume other carries will do the same.

The Chinese market would LOVE the gold version.

Personally I stay away from it, white for me this time, had 2 black iPhones in the past.

I plan on getting one - but there is no way in hell you'll find me at the Apple Store Friday morning :p I'll order online and wait over the weekend...

Not sure what to do yet, either order online and wait, or try the reservation system and see if I get something. Tempted to simply stay up until midnight and order online this time round, provided it can get to me within a reasonable time. Main reason is to ensure that I get my Nexus 4 into that well known high street trade-in store as soon as possible.

Concerned about the potential denting etc, though hopefully Apple have learnt their lesson with this one, and I have a good feeling about it for some reason...

I will order Friday morning (20th) for the 5S, I might pop into Bluewater on the way home after work and see what if they have any left!

I think with the 4S everyone said it was 8am, but it turned out to be 9am and was then a complete disaster trying to order. I don't think I got an order through until about 10am, and by then I ended up with two orders having gone through when I finally got confirmation.

Good point, completely forgot about that, thanks for the reminders :) Well hopefully orders won't take an entire week to arrive or something stupid!

How long is a piece of string?

The London Apple stores typically have queues running all the way around the building and down another street. In other words, a VERY long wait.

Whats the size of the que likely to be like at the Trafford Centre on Friday morning?

last time i went the trafford centre on launch morning was for the iphone 4. We got there at 5am and there was already a massive queue!! the only bonus was apple had paid krispy kreme to hand out free tray fulls of donuts and coffee. I was smacked off my t*ts on sugar by 7am
