Is it a known problem regarding mounting USB storage in recovery? It won't let me mount USB storage, it keeps doing nothing and when I try sd-ext it says "Error mounting /sd-ext!"

This can happy when something you've done regarding root and or kernel has go awry. Without knowing exactly what you have done can't say how to fix.

I've got PhillZ CWM.

I just installed CF Auto root, then slapped on CWM and after that SU and that's it. As far as I can see that's all I needed to do. I need USB Storage access in recovery as I need to move backup ROM off the phone as not enough memory.

I'm going to put ARHD 3.0 on, not sure about this MH8 fix if I need to flash that via recovery or Odin.

Ok so been on FH 1.8 since last night and its working flawlessly (apart from a little issue- status bar reverting back to black every now and then).

He has added the following AOSP apps directly into the rom:

AOSP Dialer
AOSP Contacts
AOSP Calculator
AOSP Clock

He previously added AOSP MMS so now the transformation to stock UI is almost complete.
Toggles in notification panel now are also in AOSP style and UI.
Notification Panel is 95% AOSP now....you just don't have as many toggles as AOSP (screen timeout etc).

The only thing that is TW based is Settings in that it is laid out in panels.
The slimline version of the ROM has also done away with bloatware.

All in all, a good update :)

depends what recovery you have and what format the card is in. some of them dont support ex-fat. CWM certainly doesnt.

There's a CWM compiled by chenlgu that supports exFAT, here if anyones looking. Version i9505-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.2-5.tar has been working fine with my exfat formatted 64gb SD for months.

Anyone recommend one of those cheap plastic cases.there hard enough to withstand a drop but flexible enough to fit on the phone.

Not the silicone ones as if you have them in your pocket they stick and come off when you pull the phone out.

I had one on my htc one s and it covered the corners and went round the front as well so even drops on the front were protected as it was a few mm off the floor if it did indeed land facedown

If anyone knows what i mean then id be obliged for a item number.

I've got a class 1 16gig in Manchester just not there till Sat so in mean time still want to get me phone on a diffo rom.

Just dare not do it until I can get USB file storage access

Are these proper AOSP or AOSP themed TW apps?

For some reason Version i9505-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.2-5.tar won't boot for me, I need to use PhillZ

Can't understand what's wrong with the phone.

Ok so, I've had the S4 GT-I9505 since launch and it was great. Just recently though its just getting worse.

I get everything from the browser and gallery closing to the phone restarting every 10 mins!

I've ran the phone in safe mode and it still restarts so there must be an issue with the firmware or something.
I've had the problem of the battery draining in a few hours and I'm still not sure it last's as well as it used to.

How can I sort this out?
I installed a big update a while ago and its been a problem since then really, its on the MH8 version which may be a bad thing right? The SELinux status is enforcing too.

What does 'rooting' do and can I do it now I've installed the update? What's all this talk about Roms as well?
I like some of the features on the S4 but I'd also like to get rid of a lot of the stuff I don't use.
What are my options for a better and usable phone?

I realise this has probably been talked through but this thread is massive!

Thanks in advance!
:D

I'm sure some one will come along with a more detailed response but installing a custom ROM [like foxhound, pacman, cm10.2 etc] will greatly improve the speed of your phone as the bloatware is removed so your left with the essential stuff. The advantages are too long to list.....

Rooting means you get root system access. It opens up the entire OS for Apps to use and utilise.

Are you sure you're using the correct key combo to get in. Did it flash correctly? Different cable can help sometimes.

I've moved to TWRP, seems a bit better, however now my PC won't install SAMSUNG_Android driver in Device Manager

#**EDIT**

Ok I've installed the ADB drivers now, however still nothing showing up on PC when I mount USB storage? I need this to work :(
