While I'm generally in favour of the Royals, like the tradition etc... I don't think the tourism argument is a solid one - it relies on the assumption that if they weren't there then all that tourism revenue would be lost - this isn't realistic - France gets even more revenue from tourism and its a republic - fact is people still visit Palaces etc.. irrespective of the Royals.

One area where they do shine though, which you can't really attribute a price tag to - is diplomacy and generating good PR for UK PLC in general. Plenty of African and Middle Eastern leaders like them... the US media goes crazy for them - especially the two prices... overall they're working in our favour - I just wouldn't personally use the tourist revenue argument as I think its got some flaws...
 
Giving up a paid job to sponge off the tax payers, sounds like a scrounger to me, why isn't the government kicking off, oh right yeah cos of that archaic monarchy and who he was born to. Pathetic, let him pay his own bills!

Seriously how many people can just decide to give up work to focus on being a celebrity and still live a millionaire lifestyle that someone else picks up the bill for, just because of who their parents are?

Hopefully monarchy dies with Elizabeth as Charles meddles too much in government, give it a couple of years Charles will have public against him and then we become a republic and turn all their property into museums or something

You do realise he didn't give it up voluntarily? Rather he had to because he needs to spend 80 hours a week for the next 60 years doing charity work and other events...

But yeah, he's a slacker and decided to give up his job so he could sit around acting like a playboy millionaire...

I really can't believe how out of touch some people are.
The Queen will be The Queen until she dies.
Charles will be King unless he dies before the Queen dies.
