Found someone's holiday photos

Vehicle was sold recently according to here: http://www.vw-nantes.fr/fiche.php?id=16244
might be worth sending that website an email to see if they can get in contact with whoever bought it to see if they are the owners of the memory cards

Are you still in the area, or are you back at home now? If you're in the area it might be worth asking someone at reception if they recognise any of the locations in the photos. If not then send your hotel (or a random one if you weren't using one, or some other place that could do the job) an email asking the same question. Once you get a location or two that might remember the people you might be able to get contact details or something so that you could get the cards back

Well a visit to the place they stayed is probably a good start. Do you know where it is?

No idea unfortunately

Ok do a search of the reg plate find who it's registered too, ring the hire company get their names, post them on. DONE

Not sure I can do that - as far as I'm aware there isn't any french system for searching reg plates / registered keepers

Wow, that's great! I'm back home unfortunately but I'll email the dealer and find out who bought the car.

Seems to have more info on here: http://www.numberplateseek.com/

type the plate in (CA059CL) and select french, then see what the documents are. My internet is utterly poop and being sucked up by another download to the point where its barely useable so i'll leave you to have a look through them

That's not a genuine site unfortunately but thanks anyway! I've emailed the dealer so hopefully they'll get back to me.

They were taken on a 5D MK2 so I don't think there'll be any location data. All of them seem to be taken on a holiday, but some seem to be in a hotel. I'll upload a couple here if people are interested?

If the photographs are taken on a Canon 5D Mark II, then there should be a serial number of the Camera embedded into the Exif information.

It is a fairly expensive camera and highly likely that it was registered under guarantee with Canon.

Try writing to Canon UK or even emailing them explaining the circumstances and letting them know what the serial number is. Ask them if they do have a record to get in touch with the registered user on your behalf.

Another option, if you don't mind, is for me to put a link to this post within the Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 5D MKIII and the Canon User groups on Flickr, there are nearly 26,000 members of the 5D group and 130,000 members in the Canon Group - someone might be able to help.

It would be nice for them to get their holiday photographs back.

That's a great idea - I've just run a photo through an EXIF viewer and I've got the serial of the camera, so I'll send off an email to canon as well.

Feel free to post them anywhere you think would be useful - I've got plenty more photos I can upload if necessary.

Could it be a fact that someone else was taking the picture's like someone who works for the hotel and then they can sell the photos to the holiday makers, it's just that's a very expensive camera and you'd think they take better care of their gear including memory cards.

Wouldn't the hotel worker then be the person holding the expensive kit, and more likely to be careful with it? :p Anyway, a couple of flash cards are hardly a fortune and very small/easy to fall out of pockets etc

Yes however the OP didn't find the camera, the cards are cheap yes. My idea is that these holiday makers have bought said cards off of the hotel photographer and therefore they've just stuck them in a bag.

If you buy a 2.5k ish camera you buy a bag with space for all the essentials etc and spaces for cards and therefore they wouldn't fall out.

tl;dr: It's unusual for someone who has such an expensive pro grade camera to have a **** bag for it that doesn't hold cards securely.

Could easily have fallen out of the owners pocket or even have been thrown away by a thief, who walked off with the camera. Quite a few possibilities.
