********* The Official GTA V (5) thread! *********

Don't know why people don't use simplygames instead of shop to. Seem to me to be much better delivery.

Rockstar aren't the only developers to recommend against installing to the HDD, pretty sure Bungie said the Halo 3 load times would be affected if that was installed to HDD too.

Because it's a lot quieter and (meant to be) faster.

s any hard evidence to suggest that it's harmful then I wont of course. But as its stands it's just a message from a R* support employee. :p

In any case lots will still install and lots wont, don't think the world will implode :p

Had this come from some anonymous source then I might understand your dismissive attitude towards the tweet. Alas, it isn't......

Anyway, it's only a recommendation. You don't have to follow Rockstar's guidance.

I have the 7.69Gb Disc 1 content on my 250Gb internal and have installed Disc 2 onto a 32Gb USB3 flash pen, all working silky smooth here with no horrible ROM noise :-)
That said my 360 doesn't even have a ROM! lol

Its because they use different ways to cache game data, so its kinda counter-intuitive to do it from HDD when its both the source and target if you decide to install the disc...

Thats the main reasoning behind Halo 3 IIRC...

ps3ud0

Easiest thing would be to just try it with it installed. If you notice performance issues, try deleting it and see if they go away.

Spot on really.

I get where you are coming from.

It's just something being said by someone who in all likely hood doesn't know and said that as a scripted answer to cover not only their back but R*'s...

Like I said there's no hard evidence, otherwise of course it would be followed if it was beneficial or to prevent harm. :D

I'll be installing it, and if it doesn't feel right I'll just delete as Voice said. I don't see an issue really.

Don't forget people you can use any USB flash drives up too 32Gb now on the xbox.
Running the game from both the internal SATA drive and a decent USB pen will be better than running from both the ROM and internal (provided you don't have the worlds slowest flash pen though obviously :p )

Vaguely remember them saying something about the caching but yeah, if Rockstar recommend against installing it then I won't install it. Will be interesting to see the difference as Max Payne 3 had a mandatory install!

Good to know.

Lol so it's BS until someone more credible steps up to the mic..... Or keyboard?

The only reason they are recommending NOT installing both discs is because they are assuming people are going to be installing them both to the same drive.
Running it from 2 different drives (ie internal HDD and Flash Pen/USB HDD) will be as good if not better than running from the ROM imho.

I've got a reason to buy a copy from OcUK now. Plan of action for later

1) buy copy from OcUK to install the game
2) pick up my special edition from another retailer at midnight
3) Already be installed to play as soon as I get home
4) Sell rouge copy

How long does it take to install the game?

Not at all, Just I've always installed games I know I will play a lot and never had an issue, like I said and has been suggested if there is a problem it's not the end of the world as some are making it out to be. :p

20-30 mins some have been saying.

I'll be installing both discs for one simple reason....NOISE. I don't want to be sitting there for hours on end listening to my optical drive churning away when I could just install it and be sitting in peace despite any slight performance differences
