Where did I say I was being asked or forced to eat Halal meat?

I merely said I don't want to eat it.

You didn't, nor did I say you did, I merely said no one is forcing you to so why the umbrage, live and let live, even if some folk want to believe fairy tales.

I often get offended by chavs.

That said, It's not like I did not expect to see them before moving to this country. So I can't really complain about it. I could always go back to wherever I came from so I don't see chavs.

I don't see how you can come to another country and try to force your rules there.

She said: 'The duty manager said we could come and have a bottle of wine or champagne on the house.
'I’m really disappointed in their response - they didn’t really care. They were ignorant and lazy.'

Religious people being oversensitive... LOLIslam

It is a bit retarded that the store was slightly ignorant about the no-alcohol policy of most muslims... then again getting offended and going to the papers over it... get a grip

you hear more and more stories like this one all the time. a while back it was the dinner lady who got sacked for giving a muslim child gammon for her school meal.

the world has gone mad, yes there are people in the world who know the basics of other peoples religions and would not make such a basic error, but there are also people who don't.
these are the people the muslim community should be giving a break, just say to them "sorry we cant have this because......".
im sure educating people politely is better than getting the raging hump and complaining about it.
if I didn't know about the whole pork/booze thing and I tried to pass them to a muslim, a polite lesson is all I would need to make sure I never offended another muslim again.

How do you know someone follows the Muslim faith just by looking at them, it seems to me that this is nothing more than an innocent mistake and the man in question has gone overboard.

they are not giving us a choice either.
they are pretty much forcing us to accept part of their religion into our lives.
I do not want an animal to suffer whilst it faces the same direction muslims pray in and a guy says "god is great"

keep your religion and religious meat to your self and stop trying to force it onto people

if they want halal meat then there are plenty of halal shops around there's a bunch of them just up the road from me

I haven't accepted any Muslim beliefs or practices nor have I felt forced to, I don't take offence if others want to curtail their life experiences and wouldn't accept any attempt by them to curtail mine, they can want sharia and halal and campaign and shout as much as they want it won't get any where and it is their right as British subjects to try and change my mind by political action.

I wonder if a Muslim would be offended by not having anything to be offended by?

The non retarded people choose not to be offended by such petty things and instead live happily and see the funny side on such mistakes (in this case, the supermarket's).

This is what I mean, they're essentially offended because someone doesn't know something about a religion they're not a practising member of.

Err, they bought a Cheese and Onion Pasty, which turned out to be mislabelled and was in fact a Beef and Potato pasty....I would complain as well. Religion aside, what if the person was a strict vegetarian or allergic to one of the ingredients?

Usual Daily Mail, who have probably blown it all out of proportion and added a slant to make it far more sensational than the truth, which is that the family probably complained, added that as Muslims they could not eat something and then when offered alcohol (which is thoughtless in any case, you simply offer goods of their choice to a value, lots of people do not drink alcohol and it was a child in any case who ate the pasty) they probably told the Manager that was forbidden as well. I expect it was the attitude of the store rather than the specifics that have upset the Khan family, and the DM, as it is its purview has made a mountain out of it to sell copy...and joe public that reads this garbage has taken it all in, hook, line and sinker.

And the argument that commercial Halal is less humane than conventional commercial slaughter has been proven erroneous time and again. People saying that Muslims shouldn't be offended by non-halal, yet getting offended themselves over Halal...madness.

Just let people get on with their lives, whether you are a Muslim or otherwise.

It is a less human way of despatching an animal, I don't want to eat halal meat in this country.

I bet you, me and everyone else here has eaten halal meat and not even realised.
In fact ill go even further and say;
I bet you, me and everyone else here has eaten halal meat, not even realised it and REALLY enjoyed it.

whats the big deal for non-muslims, not wanting to eat halal? a dead cow is still a steak, who care how it met its maker?

But bare in mind the folk you read about in the papers are individuals and represent nobody but themselves, I've been to Muslim weddings where truly ridiculous amounts of alcohol were openly consumed, men dancing with bottles of vodka pouring down their throats.

well yeah - perhaps they should - going to the papers over a simple mix up like this is a bit ridiculous

ref the Halal thing - not something I'm overly fussed by but the key there is whether it involves stunning too

At no point have I implied any different. I've got several more grounded Muslim friends myself.

My issue is with people who get offended over stupid things, like assuming that you're a special ********* and that everyone must know everything about you.

yea they were mis-sold a pasty they don't need to bring religion into it

I'm not offended... I just believe there should be a choice if I want halal I will seek it out at the local halal butchers or wherever.

at the rate it's going halal will be the only choice whether you agree with it or not

Jesus Herbert Christ.

Family buys product labelled as 'Cheese & Onion Pasty.'
Family is annoyed because incorrectly labelled product contains meat that they do not eat.
Family feels insulted because the compensation offered is clearly against their Muslim faith.

There is no expectancy on the family's part that all meat should be Halal, just that meat that is should be clearly labelled as such. I imagine a vegetarian or vegan would be equally irritated if they had picked up the incorrectly labelled pasty and offered a ham hock as an apology.

It's like the Daily Mail is trolling you all by changing from their usual stance of 'lolislam' and you're so confused that you're filling their usual vacuous void to bring back the celestial balance. It's incredible.
