********* The Official GTA V (5) thread! *********

I just played the prologue mission and the one where you are driving in the Audi look alike with the other dude towards the garage.

Driving around it feels like Im driving on Ice with the car 90% of the time just going sideways. Am I doing it wrong :p?

Nope I found that as well, car handling was excellent in GTA4, shame they changed it :(

First thought: Kinda sad that I can't make the Tornado look like the '55 Chevy from Two Lane Blacktop :p

On the driving, I do miss GTA IV's physics a bit, as the vehicles all seemed to have real weight to them, something that seems to be a much lesser factor in V. However, I adore the new sense of speed you get. Sometimes when really hammering a car, you start to think, 'Hang about, the world is going by just a little too fast for me here', something that I never felt in IV.

Character switching works beautifully in this game, really impressed with it, as also with the new Wanted system with the police actively searching for you if they lose your trail. And the lighting in this game... absolutely stunning.

Noticing slight pop-in on minor objects (signs etc) on the XBox 360 (when playing from the disk), but I'm putting this down to Rockstar just demanding so much of the processing power for... well.. everything else! What they've managed to squeeze out of these consoles is nothing short of incredible, and a true swansong for the generation before the new ones come in.

I mostly agree, GTA4's model did still need improvement to make it more responsive but they've gone too far the other way now, cars have no weight to them and are far too twitchy making navigating windy roads a pain because you end up over-compensating too easily, and you can see just by watching the wheels when you're moving slowly that there's no actual traction, because they're sliding all over the place.

It's the only thing that's marred the experience for me so far though. It still feels far better than the likes of Sleeping Dogs or Saints Row.

Mine didn't arrive from Amazon either, complete let down.

So much for "Gauranteed release day delivery"

Just spoke with Amazon on livechat about my missing copy. They refunded delivery.

You are now connected to Gokul from Amazon.co.uk

Me:I paid extra for 1 day delivery to have this delivered yesterday and it didn't arrive. I can now see that "due to an unexpected delay your order may arrive 1 day later than originally advised". I cannot track it and upon ordering this was not advised, combined with the fact that it was dispatched in time to allow for the 1 day delivery, I'm confused to why I've paid extra for this service. I would like a refund of the additional delivery charge I paid for a service I didn't get.

Gokul:Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk. My name is Gokul. May I know your name, please?

Me:Hello Gokul, it's Booner

Gokul:Hello, Booner.

I am very sorry you have not received your order.
I'll refund the delivery charged right away.
I’ve requested a refund of 4.99 GBP to your payment card which should be processed within 2 to 3 business days. Please note, this does not include your bank’s processing time. You’ll see this amount credited on your next statement.

Me:Thank you Gokul. Is it likely that my order will arrive today or is it not possible to know?

Gokul:Yes, according to the new update from Royal Mail, all the orders that were failed to deliver yesterday will be delivered today.

Me:Thank you for letting me know and helping

Gokul:You're welcome, Booner.

Is there anything else I can do for you today?

Me:No thanks, that's all. Have a nice day

I loved the 5-6 hours I put into this last night, doing missions and some shooting range stuff. No performance issues at all on the 360 for me, not a hint of slowdown or pop-ins anywhere. Really wish I had some time off to play it as I just want to drive around and explore the world properly and I never feel I can do that fully when the missus is around. Oh well, roll on 4pm so I can go home and play it some more.

Edit: I really like the handling as well, feels a big improvement over GTA IV. It's a little twitchy in places, but it feels far easier to control IMO, especially as Franklin.

Yes this is what I wanted to say exactly. I only played perhaps 5 mins of the game (in the car) but the handling feels too twitchy and you have to over compensate. Car swings left, you turn right, car then swings full right, then you need to turn left. Repeat.

You guys using the analogue stick for driving (assuming theres no other way?)

Handling is fine imo. I love forza, forza I'd amazing, this game however is not a racing simulator, it'd be ruin the rest of the game if it tried. Likewise this game is not an fps it's a third person action adventure (imo) it would suck if you had the same aiming system as cod or bf3.

The have is spot on for me and there's not a lot they could have done better. Fir people taking about being spoiled by Pc games, please please try and make a pc spec that is 8 years old that could even come close to this...

Finally those talking about usb sticks, please remember the CD drive can read at 15. I ordered something called ByteStor which is 8 quid from the rainforest and claims read speeds of 20+.

Excellent, now I've written this I'm awake and can start playing gta again :D

Sadly was only able to play for a couple of hours but it blew my mind - seamless missions, nice car handling and it feels like a proper "living" place now. I walked around Franklins hood most of the time exploring, only did a couple of missions. It's like being back in San Andreas :)

The only solution is if R* can add some settings in to adjust (read: decrease) the steering sensitivity. Unlikely but you never know.

And hopefully also allow you to get out of cars and leave the engine running, because it's annoying not being able to use headlights to see where I'm walking. Outside of the city at night it's pitch black, you can't see a damn thing without lights.

Awww i want my copy to arrive, hurry up RM!

Wouldn't mind, they had loads in tesco yesterday, last time i pre-order a game!

Is the online element any good? Worth renewing my gold for?

Que?

The driving mechanism was the first thing that stood out as an improvement for me.

Your character can get better as you drive more dangerously (against traffic, at full pelt and land jumps on all four wheels).

Try stealing a Porsche (there's one outside the shrinks house). They handle amazingly.

I will of course give this the full benefit of the doubt, as I said I only played the first driving mission so perhaps the car is supposed to be not good in handling.

I'm not a huge fan of the driving, but only because I keep crashing. Does seem a lot more tricky than GTA4 but it's mostly because I'm always gunning it around. The racing missions with Franklin are impossible for me so far so have left them. Just crash into everyone and everything

Loving this game. About 30% in now.

One thing that makes me sad over GTA IV is the car donuts. You used to be able to pop a tyre in about 20 second, not it takes about a minute :(

Loving this. Ended up spending an hour playing tennis though last night.... The missus is round tonight though :( such a mistake agreeing this!

The cars in GTA4 handled far better than in this imo. It was far more realistic, you couldn't stop from 100mph in 2 feet which meant you actually had to plan your route through traffic which you don't anymore which is a big shame.
Sure in 4 the handling wasn't perfect but had they twekaed it a bit then that would have been great, shame they went the other way and made them all handle like they're made of air :(
Other than that, game is great!
