click when i turn on and shutdown pc, is this the HDD?

Some audio cards, notably the asus xonar range click when the system is switched on. Not sure about recent onboard audio chips. A hdd clicking repeatedly can be a sign of imminent failure though.

Thanks for the reply i heard about the HDD click and thought the worse but it only does it during startup and shutdown so it must be my xonar Phoebus soundcard :)

Never knew about the Xonar clicks. Always wondered what that click was in my case, must be the DX.

A dying HDD would click all the time not just at boot and shutdown. I was gonna say it sounds like a stuck record but with mp3's, cd's etc most people probably don't know what that sounds like anymore!

Iirc it's to do with relays on the xonar cards. I actually miss that little click now on boot as my dx wont fit on my mobo. Im stuck with the abomination of cheap onboard sound.
