Hi Guys.

Just completed MAFIA 2. This has got to be the best game + soundtrack in the world. I love everything about it.

Now im on a quest to play more mafia games. Can anyone help me with naming any games that I can try??

I love the graphics quality ( million time better than gta4) and the freedom to roam is just right. Also the movie clips in each episode gives your fingers a rest lol.

If anyone can suggest an up to date game with this style game play please advise.

Cheers,

Dave

Sleeping Dogs definitely and cheap lately...usually 4 quid in sales think amazon usa have it at the moment on sale.

The Godfather games are good too, I think I preferred the first one. There's also the first Mafia game but it centres a lot more around driving than Mafia 2.

can i ask what do you think to la noire as i love gangster/mafia games

I LOVED LA Noire and i like gangster stuff/mafia/1920-50s era.

If you liked the film Chinatown you will really like LA Noire. It has great city, good soundtrack, nice characters, facial animations are great and it's a good challenge getting perfect cases.

Just play the first mafia, it's waaay better. (obviously older gfx).

I remember the first one, got to a mission with a bar shootout way in the middle of nowhere, and you have to chase a guy afterwards in a car on a long, straight road. His car was 4-5x faster than mine and dusted me in what was basically a drag race and it kept failing the mission. After about a week of trying it over and over on and off I snapped the disc.

Not fond memories at all. :p

:D

Sounds a bit like the chase after the motel fight (in the middle of nowhere), which ends up with you after a guy in a yellow covertable. Although it might be another bit, since that guy was pretty quick, but not really that fast :p

I'm almost tempted to replay mafia 1 again :)

Yeah I think that was it! I'm not sure what was wrong with it, you'd chase him outside after a gunfight and he'd get in some sports car like you said, and I remember distinctly that every damn time I'd stay on him a little bit until the road got completely straight and then zoom. :(

It's on PC aswell isn't it? :D

Mafia 1 is one of the best games on any platform in my view....completed it several times.Yeah the guy with the yellow vehicle was a pain but smacked him out within a few tries. :p

Worst bit was something involving the racing car can't remember if it was the race or the bit after driving back i found that the hardest part of the game.

LA Noire doesn't require a very good pc either as far as i know.Do not forget Sleeping Dogs if you do not have it.

IMO the Mafia games are seriously over rated.

The driving dynamics are awful. You just skid everywhere on the snow. Outrun the cops... yeah right. Once you get a 'wanted' rating that's it.

The designers made saving the game at the apartment so long winded. Instead of in through the door and that''s it, it's go through the door, along a corridor, up two flights of stairs along another corridor until you get there..

"best game + soundtrack in the world" - are you 75? There's about six or seven radio stations to choose from and they all sound the same.

Reinstalled 2 last weekend to see if I was wrong the first time... nope

If you don't manage to shoot him, I think he ends up driving off a cliff. And if I remember correctly, you have to walk all the way back to town as you crash your car.

Or maybe that was just me getting peeved at the damn driving physics

Pretty pointless the Mafia 2 team creating a vibrant sandbox environment but then failing to put any sandbox elements in to the world... It was only half the game it should have been

Mafia 1 and Sleeping Dogs are best games of this genre. Mafia 2 is great too.
LA Noire is more adventure game than city action, but still very good, if a little repetitive. Best played one case a day, in short bursts, like a tv show.
Godfather is pure EA trash, sadly. I had high hopes for it.

Makes me remember one of the freeride challenges where you had to drive a crappy car over a bridge while bombs were being dropped on you... was infuriating :D
