AMD "Hawaii" R9 290X GPU Specifications Revealed

44 compute units? Wow thats a huge increase from 32 on the 7970. I still expect the card to have a boost clock up to 1000 core. Someone do the math on what that adds to the pixel+texture rating. Bru, get to work. :)
The only thing holding me back from getting the Asus 7970 Matrix Platinum is the thought of the possibility that the Hawaii Pro (not the XT) being no more than £90 more expensive (so around £360 or less I guess?), and offer the same or greater performance jump than going from a 7950 to the 7970 Matrix (£90 price gap)...

Yeah at those specs prob -5% +5% depending on the game. Probably not worth switching from a 780.. Normally I would switch over each time a decent new cards launch, but after my recent Ebay disaster, I won't be selling this 780 lol. Only worth upgrading for 20% - 30% more performance for me, otherwise a pointless upgrade..

Interested to see max OC Hawaii VS max OC Kepler, can AMD beat that pixel / texture rate?

Nice, This is mine currently under water and with a modded bios :) *The green is from my custom windows theme*

If the HD7990 is going back to £600, and the top R9 is coming in at the current HD7990 price, then it will be a 780 beater as AMD cards usually offer more performance per £ than Nvida cards, so looking at that the new GPU's with 7970/7950 power should be priced where the 7870/7850 are now.

The 7850 is currently ~£120. The chances of AMD selling a tweaked 7950 for that money, are the same chances of an asbestos cat safely chasing a paper dog through hell ;)

Firstly I thought it was quite obvious I was talking about normal 7870/7850 prices not the super discounted EOL clearance ones :P

And secondly as cats are faster than dogs and asbestos doesn't burn I think the cat would be quite successful ;p

Nice clocks on your 780, I really doubt it would be worth switching over from a 780 tbh. I guess we won't know until launch just how powerful these cards are.. Want some benchy's to get leaked plz.

Well we'll see soon enough ;) If normal price is £150, I still think you'll need to add £50 on top of that. They'd really be cutting their margins to start selling a 7950 for £150.

And I don't think they will, because there's no incentive for them to do so? People will still buy a mid-range card at £200, so why charge less?

Wonder if they'll do what they did with 7990 and wait a stupid amount of time to release the forthcoming new dual gpu card. =/

Maybe we won't see a dual Hawaii? Might be asking a lot of 28nm.. I guess unless they don't use the fully enabled part..

I think Hawaii will last until June, then we will start seeing 20nm cards from AMD..

Interesting spec. 2816 SP is a little more than I was expecting (I expected 2560). Given the die size, I wonder whether some of the GPGPU-centric features have been stripped from the design? I guess we'll see, but if the chip does take roughly the same balance as the 7970 then the chip must have been made significantly more compact.

The key to performance will be the clockspeed that the chip is capable of. At 1Ghz I can see a re-tuned 2816 SP part beating a stock GTX780 quite comfortably. If AMD can push the clocks a little further, perhaps 1100Mhz, then I would expect the chip to match a stock Titan.

Perhaps they will take 2 of the 20nm top parts and call it a 295? Or whatever silly name it would end up being. :p

What happened Broom?

Sold a part on the bay, was working 100%, used in my own PC. Anyways the guy kept it for 4 weeks, then opened up a 'not as described' dispute in PayPal. I spoke with PayPal said he has had it 4 weeks, not contacted me.. They said that it would be unlikely that I would have to refund as he had item for long time, and suggest the buyer use the warranty..

Anyway next day they closed case in favor of buyer, he got all his money back. I lost my postage costs, final value fee, and the item he returned was now broken. I'm not even sure I can claim on warranty as buyer apparently already tried. They may have even been sent a new item by the manufacturer..

So lesson learnt, Do not sell on Ebay.

Jesus man that sucks. That is ridiculous how you can end up like that. Can't you tell paypal he's broken it?

What happened Broom?

He bought something off eBay from Vietnam that was supposed to be unused but it turned out not only was it used but it may actually have left the factory with a male connector and been modified to a female connection, then when it run away within 1st year they refused to send him a replacement :(

This does not look very promising

http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/2460/radeon-r9-290x.html

It would need massive overclocking headroom to match an overclocked GTX 780 or Titan.

The specs are 37.5% higher than Tahiti which is about 30% slower than titan. Its gonna be nip and tuck. :p

Yeah man, I did. Opened up a appeal, the serial number doesn't even match the box and the item smells burned. I told PayPal all of this. They said ok we'll get back to you within 48 hours. This was the reply.

I'm sorry to hear you have received back not in the same condition it was sent. As we didn't see the exact condition of the item received by the buyer, we're not able to verify the condition the item should have been returned to you in and so we cannot grant an appeal in this case.

Basically no help whatsoever. I won't sell on there again.

I guess in that instance you would have needed to take pictures of the card to show paypal. If you'd have done that showing the serial number you'd be in with a chance i reckon.
