AMD "Hawaii" R9 290X GPU Specifications Revealed

I do hope this will be a card that drops the prices all around, whatever it is.

And I am not expecting a "Titan killer", nor a titan ultra. At most we'll just see a Double-gpu 780 or a double-gpu titan. Who could afford those though.. :P

AMD only need to find 7% more performance over a 780 to be up there with a titan, it's entirely possible AMD will kill the Nvdia titan.

I think AMD are clocking it low, likely 900mhz core to keep the TDP down i presume. Maybe a 1000core clock boost assuming its within TDP. So i would expect it to have similar overclock ability to a 7970/50.

Packing that much into an 18% Increase...an issue of transistor density? Heat? Could hold back overclocking

This time next year they'll be obsolete, midrange 20nm cards will be comparable in performance.

Um, thanks for that captain obvious :p.

So yeah this is my price prediction,

£400 - £500 at launch. (Depending on brand and retailer)
Swiftly dropping down to £350+ once the initial sales drop off.
This time next year they will be £250+.

My 780 was £450 so these cards would have to be pretty decently priced to beat that value VS performance. Think I will hold out until 20nm..

I think they will come in clock speed wise at 1000mhz but don't expect many people to be able to get them overclocked much above 1200mhz.

I am working on the basis that this card is a bit larger than a HD 7970 and will be slightly more limited by heat/overclocking headroom.

I paid £515 & £448 & £392 for my 3 cards... can't complain.

I'm only looking forward to the AMD cards to see if that will change the pricing for the nVidia GTX 780 cards, because I'm lurking at a Zotac GTX 780 AMP card.

coukd be interesting for some sub £200 7970 beating cards.

I'll bet you that doesn't happen ;) These days when new cards come out, they match the old pricing or get more expensive.

I'm bracing myself for the 7850 replacement to be £200-£220, the 7870 replacement to be £240-£250.

Those prices sound right to me, because they are what people are willing to pay these days. Only a few of us (myself included) refuse to get on the runaway train of GPU pricing.

If the HD7990 is going back to £600, and the top R9 is coming in at the current HD7990 price, then it will be a 780 beater as AMD cards usually offer more performance per £ than Nvida cards, so looking at that the new GPU's with 7970/7950 power should be priced where the 7870/7850 are now.

If that happens then the chances of tri-fire increase for me.

Going by the specs, It looks like it will be neck and neck with the 780 as each have their strong point over each other.

Yeah at those specs prob -5% +5% depending on the game. Probably not worth switching from a 780.. Normally I would switch over each time a decent new cards launch, but after my recent Ebay disaster, I won't be selling this 780 lol. Only worth upgrading for 20% - 30% more performance for me, otherwise a pointless upgrade..

Interested to see max OC Hawaii VS max OC Kepler, can AMD beat that pixel / texture rate?
